Blog is a term for "Web Log", which is nothing more than a Web site for opinion or a personal journal where someone post entries for others to read. Blogs are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or things like pictures or video. Or, in the case of some blogs there are several people who post to the same blog on varying subjects. Anyone can start a Blog, no journalistic integrity required. Most blogs are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and even message each other via widgets on the blogs and it is this interactivity that distinguishes them from other static websites.
Thanks to the advent of the World Wide Web, people can now become easily confused between the Blog of opinion and in real, actual news reporting. Bloggers, especially those engaged in participatory journalism, find it a convenient method of getting around the journalistic filters of an editor, of sourcing the story, of citing the sources, and of confirming both the sources and the facts of the stories.
