RE: Is this a reasonable price for this new truck?

Hello:

Just out of curiosity whey a new truck when their are so many slightly used trucks out their for the taking....some of them are priced very competitively for only being around a year old....your spending lots of money here so i would advise shopping around more.

Further for over 100K why not a class 8 rig? the service life is so much more and the power train is that much stronger. nothing better then 500 horses to take you anywhere. You defenatly should have a tag or tandum axles. Much better ride and more freight opportunities.

I know the shower is nice but have you investigated what a pain in the ##### the shower actually is? your hauling around water as added weight, not to mention having to worry about the tank freezing or getting damaged. If your a runner you will have shower coupons all over the place. if i had a 100k to play with i would stretch a pete or freightliner with a freedomline and slap a box on it!

I don't quite understand--The guy didn't say he purchased the truck he only said it is the best deal he could put together so far from the companies he has talked to. I'd say no matter what kind of a truck it was it would be a good price as to everything he listed. Maybe that is what he was wanting to know from his question. Everyone here seems to have comments that are unappropriate and since I'm new to the forum I really don't know if this is the best place to ask questions. It sounds like there are a lot of unhappy drivers and maybe they don't really want new people in the business.

That's not it at all, Kat. What we're trying to get is more info, but the guy keeps skirting around it... like we're gonna run and get the truck before him. The ppl here are up front, cut-n-dry, tell it like it is folk. For all we know, he could be a salesman trying to fish for a potential buyer. Or, he could be as mentioned... someone who already bought the truck, and is now trying to get justification from the site to see if he made the right choice. Whatever it is, he's hiding crucial aspects of this sale that prevents us from giving him an educated answer. Only the truth can set him free... at least in here.

Not necessarily. As mentioned, several other pieces of information are required to make that kind of determination. If a truck is underpowered or has issues with its application, then it may have little value in expediting, thus negating the 116,000 expenditure.

Kat123,
If this person would post what type engine, trans, number of e-tracks, does it have tag axle make and model, does it have a generator make and model, does it have liftgate make and model plus list all extras so true value of truck can be determined. Without a complete list of all the truck has limits being able to determine true value of truck.

OK, I'll step out there and say no it's not a good deal. Since none of us can get direct answers to important questions regarding the truck we just have to go on best guesses. In that case I'll be blunt and frank and put it out there. Some won't like it and some will say I'm mean but I'm just working with what I have to work with.

No, it's not a good buy because it's a Hino. You've been seduced by the shower and don't see the mediocre chassis it's attached to. The Hino 338 is a citywide furniture delivery truck or trash truck. It is not a 48 plus Canada OTR truck. It is very underpowered and often improperly geared.

Compare it to saying you need a small car to tour the country and Canada with. You've found a new car with a/c and stereo for $9900 out the door. Is that a good deal? Hint, it's a Yugo but that information was withheld. Your other option is a Toyota/Honda/Nissan for $11,750 with a/c and stereo. Which do you want to trust for a 150k mile tour?

As previously mentioned, especially for a team operation, a class 8 chassis is the only way to go. Even for a solo it's a better platform. One can get a very good class 8 for around the same price but without that seducing shower and satellite system.

So, to be blunt again, do you want a good truck or a fancy sleeper?

But I thought you couldn't make money without a big sleeper and all the bells and whistles?

Bells and whistles are only a must for those who didn't wanna leave home in the first place.

It doesn't have the bathroom of the truck asked about but is guaranteed to be a better money maker and have multiples of the usable lifetime. I believe the desire is for a tourist conveyance that will make a little money on the side though, at least based on how the thread has gone so far. Even this would be a much better choice than a Hino with a bathroom.

Lugnut1, I don't profess to know all that much about the inner workings of these truck, after all, I am "just a girl"!!! What I DO know about is WRONG DECISIONS and how they can haunt you, almost ruin you, for a VERY, VERY LONG TIME.

You would do well to listen to the advice given here, these guys aren't doing anything but TRYING TO HELP YOU, TRYING TO KEEP YOU FROM MAKING THE WRONG CHOICE!!

We recently ended a VERY LONG 4 year struggle with the "wrong choice" and trust me when I tell you, it can and will COST YOU THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. Not just in repairs but the downtime is a killer also.

ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD, that's what I was compelled to say when we were constantly told what a "good-looking" truck we had. Can you spell L-E-M-O-N??? And please note that there are no lemon laws in place to help you....nothing....nadda for the truck driver.

I think you're being enticed into a less than acceptable truck with a slightly more than acceptable sleeper. Trust me when I say that the comforts of the sleeper will be bittersweet when you're sitting on the side of the road waiting on the big hook to come get you.

You probably don't want to hear this stuff but if you're a wise person, you'll take all this to heart. Somehow I think your mind is made up already but I hope that's not the case.

All this just my humble opinion, of course.

I'm surprised this thread hasn't shown up in the General Topic Thread "Posts You Would Like To Forget " .
But is the price reasonable ? Doesn't matter because it wouldn't be a reasonable purchase . A fleet owner's truck would be the way to go .
Anyone with enough knowledge and experience in the industry to be making this a sensible purchase wouldn't have started this thread anyway .

It gets my vote!

If the author has negotiated the best price from several dealers then apparently that is a reasonable price for that particular make (top secret) truck.

Leo, is that W900 one of yours?

That is the truck I built with the local KW dealer. It's built from the factory for the job it's supposed to do. It could be converted to a tractor with minimal alteration and do a great job of that as well. You have to walk inside the truckstop to shower but it will definitely expedite freight.
