You can deduct a per diem any time you are on the road or sitting more than 50 miles from your home base.
It helps to consult a tax accountant to verify all that is tax deductible. I have a dedicated office space at home. The square footage, as a percent of the total square footage of the house, is used to calculate utility usage, which can be deducted.Anything and everything required to operate your business is deductible.
I don't know. I probably have never claimed 28 days a month for per diem, at least not with any regularity. If you are claiming 28 days a month on the road. And claiming a home office will that throw up a red flag?
We have an extra day to play with this February...Claiming 28 days a month can throw up a red flag.
I don't understand why claiming a home office would be a red flag. The deduction is minuscule unless you are claiming your entire home as your office. I have been deducting office space for 18 years and never been audited.
