I understand about the cycle of business and of life. I don't dispute it at all. I don't like to see the almost glee that some express when things go bad for others. I can't help others, I am having to do all I can to help myself. I would help if I were able. That is just how I am. As to attitude. No matter how bad it gets your attitude affects your performance. An example: Assume you want to stay in this business. If you just molder about in a funk over how bad it is you will feel like garbage most of the time and no do much to change things. If you keep positive, you will feel better and think clearer. You will be more likely to then step back, access where the industry is headed and at least try to position yourself and business to take advantage of the new opportuntities that will be coming in the future. They always do. Layoutshooter

Expediting exists due to human error or at least human involvement. There are many reasons people need their stuff ASAP. Not ordering enough, ordering the wrong stuff, J.I.T.,manufacturer was slow, t/t couldn't get it all onboard, somebody forgot, etc, etc. When there is more economic activity, there are more snafus that need to be remedied, i.e. expedited freight to be hauled. human nature being what it is, my guess is expediting will grow, not shrink....

Exactly right letzrock, the best paying load we ever had in the nearly 7 years that we have been doing this was a mistake.

The load was from GA to CA and was double shipped. The consignee refused the load and we were told to wait until they worked through the problem, detention time for a weekend wait and the great rate we got for the load made for a nice payday.

BTW,I liked your former avatar,I loved Ghoulardi (or was that a pic of the Ghoul? ) GO CAVS !!!!

this business is really bad at the moment and I have seen many friends over the years lose their business and do feel bad for them, that being said I look for a lot more to fail in the next few months and even after the rates start to get real I look to say goodbye to more as their cash reserves are depleted to the point that they will not be able to repair their trucks that they have wore out running the wheels off of the past 2 years with freight that they didn't make anything but fuel money on.

right now I know a friend that is broke down right at the moment with transmission problems that he cannot pay for, he has hauled a lot of freight this year but at a price that is at or even below his operating costs so hence, sadly this problem is going to do him in.

i have been holding out for the freight that makes sense and turning down the stuff that I would end up working for free doing and that will wear my truck out ,I have spent more time at home this year than in any of the now 11 years I have been in this business with the idea that sooner or later the rates will go up and since I haven't wore my truck out I will be able to continue be able to stay in this business,I guess only time will tell if I chose the right path.

As we thrive off of the goofs of others as that's what expedite is really all about.
There are said goofs in expedite, and when the companies that use them get a bad taste in their mouth from the Goofs. They that goof and use the goofs will be back and then the price can go even higher. That's the pleasure of the business.
Easter did a load that a company hadn't had to use the carrier for 12 years. Somebody goofed up and well needless to say when we showed up You wouldn't believe how happy they were. 12 years yup it really was that long. By the way I now know who makes the Apple Pie Filling for Hostess Apple Pies. MUMS the word.
All thanks to the GOOFS.
PS: GOOFS keep up the good work We are all counting on ya!!!!

I am still fuming about the load opp I got on Thursday. I was in the Carolinas and they wanted me to do a run on Friday p/u at 0830 deliver at 1200, 95#, and total miles 140, pay $68.82 (not a typo).

I went online to FedEx Express to see what it would cost me to send a 95# package Next Day early morning (fastest delivery available) $175.30 so if FDCC charged that rate I would have received 106.06 plus FSC.

Now that little orange truck would have had more than ONE item in it and it would not have taken 1/2 a day to get delivered. I just cannot believe they would book this kind of load let alone sent it out to my $175000.00 truck that cost me 212.72 a day whether it moves or not!

I think it is everyone, Landstar rates are way down, 1.09 for aa&e no way. Tried to get aloadout of El Paso not even for 1.10 was under bid at 1.05 gross. I think Expeditors are a dying breed, at least we are on the endangered species list. Ready to get out of the biz and plan to as soon as I can get other employment.

HeeHeeHee! Glad to hear your planning to stick around kyoung;301811 cause they ain't no othder employeeeement to be had! :D
