Is it time to call a spade a spade?

No, not what you were thinking. This Forum has nothing to do with expediting. There is no reason that my Grandchildren (who happen to be the prettiest grandchildren in the world) should ever be on this part of the EO web site.

I'm not suggesting that this be a place where nude pictures of ugly men and women get posted. (maybe not even good looking ones :() But can't our posts get a little more latitude?

As the rules are now the post by the 'shelled one' was out of bounds and was edited by Leo in a very appropriate way. Not heavy handed at all, and I thank him for that restraint. To often in the past the entire thread would have been deleted, and we would (at least I would) have whined for the rest of the weekend.

There is an easy way to ensure that the wrong people don't become offended by the posts. Simply do the same thing for this Forum that is done in the Carrier Forum.

I am not suggesting that this become the land of four letter words, or calling each other *******s, but if I think your full of **** I would like the opportunity to say it.

So what are the pro's and con's?

I was raised to speak and act in a polite manner in public and twice as polite when women are around. Those of you that have met me in person know that I do everything I can to present myself in that manner. I do my best not to use "certain words" or talk in "certain ways" when in public. I don't always succeed, but I do my best. I am even polite when speaking to flaming liberals!!

Well I guess I'll just have to become more eloquent, when trying to call someone an *******.

I remember learning early in school(almost 60 yrs, ago), that the use of profanity, and vulgarity, was a way to compensate for having a limited vocabulary. I do agree with Layout, yes we do agree on some things, that your parents would have taught you how to behave, in public, and around women. Restraint of tongue is an admirable quality.

Any and all areas of the EO forum should be appropriate for any and all visitors to the forum. The forum software itself has the listing of vocabulary that's allowed or not. Images are the responsibility of the moderators. Not speaking of anyone in particular but as a general rule, vulgarity is the crutch of those who lack the intelligence and/or vocabulary to converse otherwise. Tangentially, it's the crutch of comedians who aren't funny in real life.

I absolutely don't agree with some of this.

Lawrence has shaped it into what he feels is right, which I will agree with him but don't fool yourselves over this issue.

The last time I looked this is a site about an adult subject in a profession that is vulgar to most in polite society.

This is not romper room where we must watch our language so not to teach the brats what not to say, they are already exposed to a lot more than what could ever happen here.

I think it is offensive to a lot of people if you equate vulgarity with the level of their education and judge them by it. I mean look around, see what society has brought up so and then look at this profession - a mean, dirty and one with more of the lower educated in it than ones who are with masters or doctorates.

I for one wanted to delete the WHOLE thread as I found it offensive. I have been told I do not have a sense of humor and I found no humor in this, for some reason I still seem to think this is a trucking forum. When I received a heads up on this thread I did go look to see what the problem was then I made a phone call to someone with much better judgment then me on this type of thread. He as usual made the right call and I will go back once again to not entering this forum.

I for one wanted to delete the WHOLE thread as I found it offensive.
And I find your attitude offensive, especially coming from a Moderator who has supposedly read and comprehended the Code of Conduct. As part of the Code of Conduct, "You understand that by using the forum, you may be exposed to content that is offensive or objectionable." And nowhere in the Code of Conduct does it say the posting of something which someone may find offensive is a violation.

I have been told I do not have a sense of humor...
Whoever told you that was spot on. You don't.
...and I found no humor in this, for some reason I still seem to think this is a trucking forum.
And for some reason, you don't know what a trucking forum is. It is a forum populated by truckers, who bring with them the humor of truckers.

Vulgarity is defined as being characteristic of ignorance, or a lack of good breeding or good taste, the unrefined, a trait of the ordinary people of society.

Any way you want to look at it, calling someone vulgar is a way to put someone down, and to make you feel elevated above them. It's a classic separation of the classes, class warfare on a guttural level to bolster one's self-worth, their self-esteem, to feel superior. Claiming that because someone uses vulgar language means they are lacking in an educated vocabulary and are lacking in intelligence is nothing more than saying, "I'm better than you."

I contend people who make such claims are not. And I'll take my obvious lack of intelligence and my woefully inadequate education and stack them up against anyone here who wishes to debate the subject.

OK, fine, I posted a picture that I probably shouldn't have. But like I said when I posted it, I don't care. Funny is funny, and that picture was funny. Those who think it's vulgar have no sense of humor, are lacking in intelligence, and are so repressed and tight you couldn't pull a needle out of their aѕѕ with a tractor. In the words of one of our esteemed moderators, "Lighten up."

Turtle I did not make any of my comments a personal attack on you. I believe I did mention I lightened up and called someone who would handle the thread in question with much more aplomb then I would have.

Mine really isn't meant to be a personal attack on you, either, tho it certainly looks that way, I admit. It's an attack on attitudes more than anything.

Not too long ago I had a post deleted by an administrator solely because he personally felt it was offensive. Never mind the fact that being offensive doesn't violate the Code of Conduct, he deleted it anyway. Ironically, the reasons he gave for deleting it was a clear indication that he didn't even understand the joke. But it was deleted just the same, not because I violated the Code of Conduct, but because he personally didn't like it, and because he doesn't like some of my beliefs. He said it wasn't personal, while at the same time telling me that it was.

So we've got these rules that we're all supposed to follow, but some apparently feel they are either above the rules or they can have their own set of them. Ironically, these are the very people who are supposed to be setting the example which we're all to follow. These same people are in effect telling others that if their education, intelligence and senses of humor do not mirror that of those in control, then somehow they are less of a person, vulgar, beneath them. I've got two college degrees, yet I'm the vulgar one lacking in intelligence with a limited vocabulary. What a friggin' hoot.

So when I read your post about wanting to have the whole thread removed simply because you personally found it offensive, even though that's not a reason to delete a thread, I felt compelled to comment. And although it certainly appears that way, no offense or personal attack intended, I assure you.

You really don't have a sense of humor, tho. :D

At 12:29, Linda said she was going back to ignoring this forum. At 1:50, she was back. I'm shocked!
