My Ohio IRP plates for my straight truck were $590 last year. I had to make 3 trips to the IRP center. I think you have to get your plates in your state of residence. The first thing they asked me for was my last phone bill for proof of residency which I didn't have, even though I called and asked them what I needed. I don't know what the normal fee would be for a straight truck in Michigan, but I hope your carrier isn't charging you a big fee for doing it.

$2400.00 A year does sound like too much, but then I don't live in MI. We usually average between $1000.00 and $1200.00 a year for a D unit here in OH.

We are domiciled in Michigan and out truck has a GVW of 48,000lbs. We are apportioned in every state and Canadian Provence that you can get. Our cost for 1 full year is $902. I think you are getting ripped off. Layoutshooter

When we first set up or IRP account in Michigan we drove there to do it in person. It took about an hour and only one trip. We did call first to insure we had all needed documents. Layoutshooter

Each state has its own price, but is based on the number total miles you run in every state, either estimate or real.On my tractor,80000 lbs I livein ohio and pay $1600,and Im only registered in the 48 states

Yep, every year we have FDCC email us our state by state mileage stats. We send that into the Michigan IRP office when we renew our tags. layoutshooter

My truck is register in M.I for 32,000,
it is very mach more expensive (i do not know by how mach) to register a truck in M.I for 33,000.
my carrier took care of it when i sign inn ,
and then just before the first of the year.
I pay 100$ a week out of my settlement for 10 weeks.
registration in M.I is not a proportion registry - meaning ,once you pay - you pay for the year , no refunds .
getting your own Plate is important so you can walk away from your carrier at any time.
In my own state of Minnesota , i can register my truck for 33K ,it is less then 400$ for the year and is proportionate .
problem is , they require 6 (!) forms ,
and 4 (!) proff of regency .
IFTA reports ,
bill of sell ,
Ext...
I will get it done when i have the time ...(as i already payed for 09)
I have the forms in my truck (somewhere ) and can scan and Email it if someone from M.N (AT)need it .
you will get it only if you also apply for a Viking plate...

I don't understand what you mean. I have a plate. Yes, I pay for a year. I am afraid I just don't understand what you are trying to explain. Sorry, I am slow. Layoutshooter

You don't live too far from us, we live a bit south of Monroe. Call 517-322-1097 during the week. That is the IRP office in Lansing. They are VERY helpful. They will help you get started. When you have all of your paperwork ready it is worth the drive out there. You can get it down quickly. Layoutshooter

I don't know that for sure but I would assume so. We drive for FedEx and they take care of all of that. Ask Ontario Van Man or Jack Berry on that issue. They drive for Bolt. Anytime you have any questions about the business, or anything else for that matter, drop me a private msg. Us Michiganders have to stick together. Layoutshooter
