hey guys. im getting ready to get my 2 trucks on the road. i have a 20ft flatbed straight truck (25,500 gvwr) as well as a small hotshot. all the research and calls i have made still leave me with out a definite answer. ifta says if your under 26k you dont need to register but you CAN if you want. can i still get irp plates and ifta ? or better yet, Should I ? since i am still transporting cargo in interstate commerce, so even tho i am under 26k i still think i need ifta/irp. any help is always appreciated Thanks!

Since IFTA says you don't need to, why would you think you need to?

Registering with IFTA would be stupid,and I doubt they would even accept an application. Why would you want to have the liability of buying a required amount of fuel in states that have higher taxes on fuel,when you can buy just when needed and in the cheaper states. That would be counter productive?
If you travel to Arizona regularly you might want to get apportioned plates but no reason to get IFTA .
I'm heading to a drop I'm Phoenix and when I get to the border they will ding me for $79 for a 30 day permit...

You say "Small Hotshot" set-up.......what are you referring to??? Truck AND Trailer....Pick Up Truck Only....Cargo Van???
On the 25,500 FlatBed Straight Truck.....make sure you put "Under 26K" somewhere under your Company Name.....DOT / MC #'s.......along the bottom of the door......etc.....just so that the Scale House Dude doesn't call you in for not having a current IFTA Registration / Sticker visible on your windshield......corner of the fender....etc.
