Inverters

Just wanted to ask for opinions on true sine wave inverters?

I believe our old square wave inverter is on it's way out so I ordered a new sine wave inverter and was wondering how those that have one liked them.

We stayed with the same wattage as the one that came with the truck (1500/3000) which we never had a problem with in regards to sufficient power.

Thanks

Everything runs cleaner, quieter and more efficiently with true sine wave. Motors, like a fan or a fridge compressor will run much cooler on true sine wave. Battery chargers work better, and quicker. The modified sine wave is akin to pounding a square peg into a round hole, you can do it, but it takes a little more effort, while the true sine wave flows freely and naturally, less effort, less energy loss to resistance heat. The true sine wave eliminates any inverter feedback through the CB and other radios, too.

I like mine :D (AIMS 2000w) - microwave heats stuff up in a reasonable time, just like if it was connected to the grid.

The Aims inverter we ordered cost $449.00 from theinverterstore.com which is an authorized
retail outlet for Aims.

no shipping charges and a free wireless remote, no sales tax either

UPDATE...

Well we got our Aims inverter...installed it and all was fine!....until we turned on the TV
and noticed lines of small dots running across the screen....we thought we could live with it after all our TV reception isn't all that great most of the time.

Shortly there after we tried to use the microwave and it started making a noise like there was metal being cooked....crap the microwave is junk so in the dumpster it went and off to Wal-Mart we went for a new one.

Installed the new microwave...turned it on...Crap...the same noise!..we just threw a perfectly good microwave away.

The return ordeal took about 4 weeks to complete..they always had an excuse...it cost
$35 just to return it and when our account was credited they charged us a 20% restocking
fee of $90 so after all is said and done it cost us around $100.00 just to have the honor of
touching that piece of .... and another $90.00 to get rid of it!

So buyer Beware!! Purchased from The Inverterstore in Reno, Nv. which just happens to be in the same building as Aims Inverters....Duh! go figure!

So now we're back using a cheap little Cobra 1750 which works just fine

Hope this Info saves someone from the hassle we went through!

Just another data point with a different outcome: I purchased an AIMS 2000 watt pure sign wave inverter about 2 years ago from Boat & RV Accessories in Dayton, OH. It was one of the old style units (large, very heavy, older design) and had been sold once and returned ..... I was less than happy about receiving a unit that had been out previously.

It took a dump in slightly less than a year (possibly due to an overload/overheat condition) I returned it to AIMS with the assistance of the owner of Boat & RV Accessories (I didn't have an actual hard copy invoice - I had purchased it online and the digital copy of my receipt was on an old computer that had died) for the cost of shipping and it was replaced with a brand new unit .... one of the new style units, which weighed about 1/3 of the old one and obviously was a much more modern design. It has performed fine since.

i BOUGHT A SIMA 3000 WATT CONTINUOUS/5000 WATT PEAK FROM PETRO 5 YEARS AGO AND IT STILL WORKS JUST FINE. I'VE HAD GOOD LUCK WITH COBRA INVERTERS, THEIR GPS'S ARE A DIFFERENT STORY.

I would have been more than happy to accept a replacement inverter if....I had an address
that I knew I was going to be at and at a given time and if I was willing to give up my creature comforts while waiting.

But this line of work makes a situation like this a tough call to say the least....that's why we're fair game for rip offs while living out here on the road.
