Interested in Teaming with Husband

My husband drove a Tractor trailer as a company driver and is about to get into straight truck expediting. I have my CDL learner's permit and want to team with him but am apprehensive about the team concept. As a solo driver (I always went with him) he could get a decent nights sleep every night. I don't mind driving a lot through the day, but I don't relish the thought of driving all kinds of wierd hours. Can someone tell me whether expediting would allow us decent sleep at night, or would it involve a lot of night driving? I wouldn't be able to handle hours without some kind of consistency or routine. Also, what would be typical mileage for a team per week?

Thanks

JR,
To be honest with you, expediting does involve quite a bit of night driving. Many pick ups are during the afternoon and deliver directly in the a.m. You can arrange it where you can do the driving during the day and have your husband do the night driving. Also, expedite freight is not really set up with a set schedule. You need to be pretty flexible to be successful. Teams on an average week in a straight truck will do around $2500-$4000/ wk with approximately 2800-3800 miles.

Hope this helps,

JR;
Expediting is all about moving "time sensitive" "plant shut-down" "emergency" freight. You never know when you will be called for a load, or where the load will be going. Most expedite carriers promise their customers a response time of 90 minutes or less to the pickup (shipper)and the (expedited) freight is delivered "straight through" without stopping.
There is a definite adjustment period for even the very experienced tractor trailer drivers when they begin to expedite. Most tractor drivers are accustomed to knowing their schedule a day or two in advance and the freight they transport is generally not "time sensitive".
Many experienced tractor drivers have become very successful in expediting. They are used to being out on the road for periods of time, enjoy driving the straight trucks and appreciate the money that can be made within the expedite industry. Being a team would allow you to drive during the daytime hours and leave the night driving to your husband.
