I am very interested in getting into the expediting buisness, but I would like a little guidance from some seasoned veterans. I have been checking out alot of the companys and just trying to decide what my best option is. Myself and a good friend would like to team drive a straight truck. Some of our questions are what is a typical amount of money it takes to run the buisness monthly. For example all payments such as truck paymeny, health insurance, truck insurance, everything you must pay out before making profit. Another question is we would like to go out for 4 to 6 days and then be home for 3 or 4 days is this possible. Like I say we would really like to get this ball rolling just want to get some helpful input from you seasoned vets. Thank you very much for your time and hope to here from you soon.

Yes it is possible, but you will not like the money you make.Especially if you need to support two households. Most succesful teams stay out 3 or 4 wks, then home for a few days.

If you have no experience in expediting, you would be better off driving for a company or owner for awhile. If you'd rather stay local, there are several in the area such as PDQ in Taylor and REI in Romeo (both go out of state as well). If you want to be home all the time, pick them... or try air freight companies out of Willow Run or Metro. They'll keep you busy all day, but you're home at night and on weekends. If you really want the meat and potatoes of expediting, pick a company (regional near Michigan would be Express-1, PTL, and several others), run with an owner for at least 6 months (to give you time to understand the business as well as the best lanes to operate). Then, if you're happy with what you make, sign a truck on with them.
Hope that helps :)
