information on Fedex

Hi, I was wondering if I could get some help with some Fedex questions from drivers who work for them. Ok, I will be starting with them in about 2-3 weeks with a straight truck driving solo. Im getting different answers from people, and the recruiter. I was told that you get 3-4 runs a week, making anywhere from %1500-$2500 a week. Does this sound right? I was also told that I won't need any additional truck insurance than what you get from them. Is there enough work out there to get 3-4 runs a week? Also heard that right now is not a good time to start in this business because its getting slow, and won't pick up until mid Febuary. Fedex didn't tell me that, someone else did. What else should I know about that there not telling me about. Thanks

It sounds about right. If you are enrolled in their insurance program that will be all you need. A gross 0f $1500-2500 is doable but there may be times when you do less, other times you will do more. Your biggest problem will be running single with the HOS rules, another important factor is where do you live, how often do you need to go home and what size truck are you running.
Historically expediting business drops off for the 1st quarter of a new year, but lately who has a clue.

One of the better areas for a single driver to be. The Northeast and New England do well for FEDEXCC. Good luck and welcome to EO.

Being in NY, NJ area you should get the runs and the revenue as indicated by RichM. Contrary to what your contact says, this has been a historicaly busy period up through Christmas. The week between Christmas and New Years Eve is always dead for most, but in your area you should be fairly steady. I'm assuming you have no problems in driving NYC. Lots of short runs in and out of there, particularly around Jamaica (JFK). Many solo drivers don't like to go into the city. If you do, you'll do OK

Solo is okay, but running team is better.

If you live in and are familiar with working in the NYC/NJ area, and if you are accustomed to driving in NYC, you will have a lot going for you that many other solo drivers will envy.

1. A lot of the freight you haul will be close to home.

2. There will be a fair amount of freight to haul.

You may not realize it at the moment, but as a solo driver in the NE, you are setting yourself up for a great start.

This is the busiest time of the year until around the 20th of December than it will be dead until the middle of March. You can go out but you might make enough money to make your truck payments?

Over all FedEx is the best Company To run for. I been their since 1995 and it has been good to me over the years. It just depend on the person. DaveKc and Leo like Panther. So not everyone fits with each company.

I have been with them for about 6 months so I will give you my impression as a recent contractor. As a solo driver you will feel like the red headed step child in the company at times. Team trucks don't have a clue what its like for solo's unless they have done it for more than a week or two at a time. The area you are in is a big plus for you. I have not seen the numbers they promised me but you might being based in the northeast. I am in the southeast.

Figure out what you need per mile to be profitable and if a run doesn't pay that, turn it down. Of course, you have to factor in if the run is moving you to a desirable location and it takes time to know that. Sometimes its wise to take less to move to a better locale and sometimes wise to turn down more to a worse locale... Concentrate on the big picture and don't hesitate to turn down a load that doesn't make sense.

Overall I am satisfied with FedEx CC and would not want to be anywhere else. I just hope business will get better. I am very thankful I have a small truck payment but I am one major breakdown away from real trouble...

Thanks lanier1 for your input. Let me just make this clear, Fedex never promised me anything being in the Northeast. They just told me those numbers; 3-4 runs a week,$1500-$2500 a week on a average week for a solo straight truck. This is why Im trying to get some answers from people who work for them.
