Information on Expedite rates

Is there anyone that can tell me where I can find the rates for expedite shipping that a carrier charges shippers? Is there an expedite freight tariff or do companies charge shippers whatever they want? I have a couple of small companies who want me to do some expedite work for them, but I'm clueless as to what to charge them.

I noticed you posted the same thing in the general forum. Welcome to the Office of Redundancy Office :7

To answer your question, I need to know what you're driving.

Several items.

Size of equipment; EX tractor, straight, van
weight
dimensions
dock requirement
one way or round trip and to what location?
does customer load or does the driver? Any special handling equipment?
hazmat or special insurance requirements?

All of those would adjust the rate to some degree.
This is figuring dry freight. Flatbed, dropdecks and the like would be different.

Without fsc, you could get somewhere around $2.00/mi for a straight truck load, IF he is your customer. If you get a load thru a broker, count on much less.

As the others said many things come into play.

I will be the first to tell you tho, if you don't know what your doing, don't do it!

I apologize for the delay on responding. Once it gets busy it really gets busy.

To answer the question, I have a 26ft straight truck under CDL which can carry 11,000 lbs. I don't have a fancy OTR straight truck with a 100" sleeper. I gave up long haul trucking a while back. Although I may not be a true expeditor in the sense, I have discovered a niche within the niche that would enable me to do the same work without having to be gone for long periods of time. This is why I need to know how expediting companies go about charging shippers. :)

If I could discover a nitch I would pick my salary say 70K a year (might be difficult since its more local) Use your point of salary that the customer can bear maybee I am wrong and its $80K. Divide by twelve, add in all of your expenses for a month thus multiply by twelve, divide by 52 and than by the or five or how many everdays a week your customer needs remember overtime for saturdays etc..

Your truck costs are yours no matter what and if your customer wants a strong committment your gona be renting a Ryder when yours is getting a PM. Congrats on the nitch please bragg as when I retire this is what I want to do NITCH work....

If you are depenable, have deep enough pockets to get you thru, truck is clean and presentable, you carry yourself professionaly. Than what ever you do CHARGE them, most likely they cannot find all of those qualities above even if the customer purchased their own truck.
