Thank you all for seeing the big picture!! I've been complaining for months now about all this discounted freight and it cost me my job!! The company will never get the clue. There is always somebody ready to take the plunge, just as I did 3 years ago. Well, with the Mexican invasion, they will have no problems finding drivers to run the discounted freight. I just hope there trucks are up to par with the safety standards that FXCC requires (that is one good thing that the company does).

So when is everybody going to put there feet down on the discounted freight? I'd like to know who got the job when all 5 drivers were put OOS? I put my feet down a few times, but sometimes it's just nice to get out of the house, and also you can bend over backward for the company to be a nice guy and help out, and then know that a real job will come up (?). The old carrot in front of you. Ah yes, the good ol' days...

Discounted freight?, better get used to it. Alot of competition with diminishing loads is the present day plight of expediting.
FDCC will tell you that there are many waiting in line for a chance to expedite,( an unfortunate departure from their "we're family " attitude as Roberts Express).Saturate the express centers with too many trucks, and if you still can'nt get all the loads use other carriers, FDCC still makes their percentage.

A grim outlook? yes but based on all the attention FDCC gets on this website they are still the company to beat if you want to expedite! Too bad this expediting thing gets in your blood.

Family attitude at Roberts???? What family- The Manson family???? Man, and I thought my family growing up was dysfunctional!

To be perfect honest I see very little difference between "Then" and "now". Roberts had discounted freight, DVA, the paternal "You are too dumb to think for yourself" attitude. The only difference I have seen is the 40% cash advance.

Seems to me the only difference I have seen is the name.

richard, have you noticed how fast things went downhill at Robert's once Jack Pickert (or however you spell hiss last name) came on board? He is the one that truly brought DVA to the table. I was with them for over 7 years, but when Jack came in I knew where we were headed! he's absolutely horrible (unless you happen to be a Federal Express stockholder) What you see contractors getting since he came on board is an increasing share of a shrinking market. He's in bed with Chrysler by the way!

I Left Fedex CC this spring after being with them 4.5 years,They have little concern for me as an O/O. I sat at Canton express center for 115 hrs and seen trucks leave around me. I spoke with the Contractor cordinator and he gave me these reasons while I was passed by. {I was a "B" Unit Single Driver.} 1-Load was an "A" load and they had a minivan at the express center. 2-Unit was closer to the P/U. 3-Computer gave three loads to other B units because of no specific reason. Their Dwell time was 65 hours or greater. The C/C told me even though I had over a 100hrs dwell time the DVA system only reconized upto 65hrs , That was it's cutoff point. After seeing 5 loads go out ahead of me and not getting any good reason for it, I get a load offer to Dead Head 100 miles and P/U an "A"load deliver it 101 miles and pay in the low 80.00 Dollar range. I refused load and two more discounted Loads. I then called C/C and took my self out of service. The next week I removed the C-Link and Left Fedex CC. They called a couple of weeks later to find out why I left. I expressed my disatifaction with how the Company was run. They said I could come back anytime I wanted and they were sorry I felt this way.

Here's my 2 cents on FXCC. My husband and I signed on in Oct., things were slow but ok until I quit driving at the end of 2000. My hubby did everything like he was asked except he did refuse loads that were really cheap. Everytime we talked to our contract coordinator about how poorly we were being paid, she kept telling us our "numbers" were good. We were still in the running for their "4 Star Award" (based on the "numbers" -on time deliveries, load acceptance, layover acceptance, etc) when we cancelled our contract. We had used most of our nest egg for the down payment on the truck and just couldn't wait for things to pick up; of course if things were awful all the way to June, they'd really have to pick up for the rest of the year to make up for the rest. Maybe we'd have done better if we had more savings to fall back on, but I think it would have just prolonged things.

Anyone wanting to get into expediting really should have 6 months worth of expenses (including truck expenses) in the bank before starting!!!! We didn't and had to make truck payments on credit cards and use it for living expenses. We now are deeply in debt.

He then signed on with Landstar, and we really weren't there long enough to say much about them, other than at least if the brokers get paid by commission, they have more incentive to find loads than the FXCC flunkies. FXCC has nothing to lose by letting trucks sit. In fact, they like it since then when they need one, chances are there will be several to choose from. FXCC wants to treat it's O/O's like employees, but without the responsibility of being an employer.

Things were slow with landstar- we were told after we signed up that it takes about 6 months to develop a relationship with brokers so you can get good loads- and we just could not wait anylonger. We were very close to getting rid of our truck.

Where did we go? Hubby met a couple that was so thrilled with their employer that they were willing to drive team in a rented day cab while waiting for their boss to get a new truck for them. That says a lot right there! It's a small expediting company in Charlotte, NC. There's mainly just the owner running the company with about 10 trucks, has steady loads, and we get 80%!!!!!! FXCC take your 54% and stickit!

This company doesn't need any more O/O's but is looking for a few GOOD company drivers. E mail me at [email protected] for more info.

Amy
P.S. When we quit FXCC they had about 1400 trucks and were getting about 600 loads per day and still hiring trucks.

Tips from me
1) dont listen to these clowns
2) never sit at truck stops w/ all the other FedEx clowns
3) dont be a lazy guy dh to a spot away from the buffet hogs that sit at truck stops eating and bitching all day.
4) dont ever listen to anyone that boasts about how much money they make...white glove hauls mostly express loads anyways. The one who makes the money is the one who busts there ##### out there.
5)dh is every mans complaint, but you may have to dh a hundred miles to make a thousand bucks so go ahead and start that motor and leave them cry babies back there at the truck stop and make that $$$$.
6)Eat in the truck and shop for cheap fuel (from rep.fuel sources).Truck stops are expensive to eat in, avoid it at all costs.
7) your the boss dont let anyone discourage you at all try your best and try not to talk to too many many expeditors that seem to be negative from the start of the conversation. You will know right away the ones that have good advice and opinions for you, they are the ones you should listen to and soak up the words of advice from....
8) good luck man...only the strong survive.

I couldn't have put it any better, lghtsgraynchrme, when I ran for the big shots I made money too, But when I compared the time to the money I didn't make #####, The best thing to do to make it is to keep the wheels turning, to make ends meet, but look at all the money your making for those xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. You said and I quote: only the strong survive, If you belive this is true then get out there and get your own runs, then tell me only the strong survive. I can hold my head up, and make that statement, because I walk the talk!x(

Good luck to all

I told you before, Fedex wants to put three trucks at every customers door step.

If you all would quit bitchen and just quit running for those asses, as Amy and her hobby did, this would be a better place.

Thanks, Tony
