Good morning all, this is my first post. There's so much to agree and disagree with on this subject. Grateful to live where we're free to have an opinion.
I'm all for doing whatever is needed to succeed in the expedite world whether it means, taking advantage of EM, moving to a better location on my own or even finding my own load through a broker. Better to make a buck anyway you can than have an empty wallet!
However, as said previously, if we wanted to consistently find our own loads, we would'nt have leased on with any company. We lease onto companies for the benefits they offer, primarily the fact that they already have established a relationship with customers needing our services.
We've been expediting now for over two years and for us, it's seems that freight has been slower this year. We heard of trucks sitting for days in El Paso, Dallas, Laredo and even Memphis waiting for a load. Last year we were pre-dispatched more often and seemed to get longer loads. Are we the only ones?
I know to keep moving has much to do with staying in areas where freight is moving. We love those long runs West, the scenery is beautiful, the road wide open at least til the coast and the $$ looks good but if the 2000 mile load leads to the point of no return and I end up sitting for days or deadheading 1,000 miles, my profit drops.
My experience has been that loads may be abundant in a certain area for a while then slows down and I've found I can't always rely on the QC for correct information, seems like there should be a way to utilize EO to pass that information to each other. I would welcome any info from newbies or seasoned veterans on good freight areas or brokers who offer good loads.
Thanks
