ok i just finished my first 7 days in the expidite business and i want to know if what i experienced was normal or what...

1st load 297 miles paid $466
2nd load 244 miles paid $422
3rd load 43 miles paid $241
4th load 157 miles paid $367

that is $1,496!!! i have never made that much in a week! even blowing half my money, that would be $748 a week!

is this normal, slow, or good?

i spent about half on fuel, food, stuff i didnt really need and blew $5 because i tried to come back into the usa from toronto without a manifest so i got deported hahaha

i spent the night at 'the detroiter' truckstop and rented a room for $24. if you dont wanna stay they have $2 showers also which i thought was a good deal since the pilots i have been to charged like $8!

i saw a beautiful islamic temple on 75 but i still didnt like the thing.

right down the road on 75, i saw a 100 foot high statue of jesus which was neat.

even further down the road i saw what might be the worlds largest porno shop!

i met a man in home depot and talked about the war.

i got called 'hey driver' more times than i can count.

i froze in detroit when i tried sleeping in my B unit without the motor on to keep warm...i ended up turning the heat back on!

i bought an XM radio and i love it. i even like the corny shows on sonic theatre...makes the time go by while you are driving.

i had a friggin blast this week and cant wait to do it again next week. if this is what this job is all about, im in it for good!

It sounds like you had a great 1st week and I hope you always feel this way about your job - it can be fun and very interesting at times.

Hope you don't mind but I am going to give you a suggestion and I only say this for your own good - Don't spend your money as fast as you make it. Give yourself a paycheck each week and put the rest in the bank for a "rainy day" and in this business, that can happen any time! (slow weeks, break downs, family emergency, and the list goes on and on and on...)

Wishing you luck and hope you always enjoy your job as much as you do today!

Ryan:

Nice numbers for a B unit. My calculator makes that out to be $2.01 per mile. Does that include f.s.c. Don't tell anyone who you are leased to. People will flock to that carrier and you will be running for .80/mile if you run at all.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Welcome to expediting.

You had a GOOD week; you'll have many GREAT weeks; and, you'll some POOR weeks. That's the way of expediting. I recommend you celebrate your good fortune with a couple of adult beverages then settle down and face the reality that this is a cyclical business where you have to save for the inevitable rainy days.

As an example, My van earned less than you did this past week and it took me the past two weeks to do that. On the other hand, I've had dozens of weeks earning double and a few weeks earning triple that which you just earned. I've also had a few weeks when my truck earned nothing. The reasons for that were no run offers, van repairs and off duty time.

Take the advice of are12, budget carefully and take advantage of the many discounts available to us. Good luck on continued success.

It's good your in heaven but make some wrong decisions and hell isn't far away. What I did for many years was to pay myself a minimum salary each month. Just enough to live on,then at the end of each quarter I would take 50% of whatever funds were available as a bonus to me. The other 50% I would let build and thus have a emergency fund when Mr Murphy comes calling and he will.Good luck and stay safe.

What a good post! When we are having a bad week we just think back to the good week and know it is coming again. This job is a roller coaster and just keep your thoughts on the good weeks. We also on our budget set back that extra money on the good weeks to cover the bad weeks. Keeps us on an even keel. We have the best job in the world and are reminded of it often.

If you've got a warped sense of humor, you'll love Howard Stern and Bubba the Love Sponge. Talk about time flying by...I'm sure everyone knows who Stern is and 4 days out of the week he does 5+ hour shows...that's half of my driving time...
Anyway enough of my infomercial...lmao:+

But if you do buy that sirius from your buddy let me know what you think.

Have I got something wrong here?? Only less than 750 loaded miles pays $1500 ??? That's $2/loaded mile! Are you serious? Are you pulling our "chain?" And you couldn't have driven more than 15-20 hours??

Sometings just don't add up but make good "braggin rights"

Your "heaven" sounds too good to be true! If that is the case, please inform those of us having been in this business for years "just how did you or your company hand out these loads?

Until then, it's hard to give a serious reply to you.
