Illinois drivers will next year will be able to join their Missouri neighbors in legally pushing the pedal a little further to the metal.

Gov. Pat Quinn today signed a law raising the state's current 65 mph top limit on rural interstates to 70 mph.

Quinn, a Democrat, had earlier expressed reservations about the move, but he said in a statement that it made sense to bring Illinois in line with its neighbors.

Missouri and most other neighboring states have top limits of 70 mph.

The new law is Public Act 98-0511. It takes effect Jan. 1.

Maybe the governor looked out the window??? Very few people have been doing 65, in fact 70 might be a bit slow.

You've mentioned Missouri, I know Indiana is at 70, Kentucky also. I think Wisconsin is 65 still. Iowa I'm not sure about, been awhile, but I think they may be at 70. That takes care of the states immediately around Illinois.

Well there ya go... More opportunity to run more miles before the log book runs out.....from Beloit to Hudson should almost pick up 30 minutes.... That sounds familiar....
