, I was lucky as Bennett had lots of work and I quickly got on my feet,
Drive away service coupled with a class A CDL is a GREAT plan B for expediters.
you are correct, with minimum upfront money, one can start driving. till another Expedite gig comes up.
and unlike OTR carriers, drive away service, for the most part, will take a recent St.Truck driving as a valid driving experience.

, Times are tuff for many folks at least hes trying to work and not surrendering to Unemployment or worse........
Amen to that.

Do not plan on getting rich expediting. You will make a living and do well as long as you are smart with money ! And don't go into wal marts and stick Machettes down your pants and walk around the store looking like a serial killer.

And don't get an MX license. The cops will target you.

If he is a Vietnam era veteran and hasn't reached his dream by now....well....I'm just thinking out loud. This comes from a Vietnam vet.

I for one have had more than one dream in life in 58 years! One dream at a time, then higher calling LOL.

I kinda know what youre saying, but, at an early age,I had it all, the house, cars, potato chip distributorship, 5 people working for me, etc.I was living my dream.A beautiful wife, and 2 kids. Then one day I come home to an empty house. So, 14 years later, still rebuilding my dreams.

What I'm trying to say is, we dont know anybody else's situation, the bumps they have encountered along in their life's journeys. What may of set them back.Let's not try to be so judgmental so quickly.:D

Life is made up of dreams, hopes, disappointments, and a lot of water under the bridge that we can never get back. Somewhere along the journey, you end up in a van watching the world pass you by and every time you reach you destination, another one takes it's place. Thank God we are in this great country where we are free to take all of the chances we want. Whether we succeed or not. We can try and thats so much better than the rest of the world.

When I was young I couldn't wait to get in the back of the van with a bed in it. Who would have thunk that 58 years later I'm back in a van with a bed in it.

Bump.
I wanted to say 'thank you' for the first post you wrote, about how we assume that people somehow deserve whatever misfortune they are having. Sometimes they do: bad choices, irresponsible behavior, etc.
But a lot of good people don't deserve what happens to them, and knowing that many people assume it's their own fault just heaps more misery on their heads.
We often get reminded to be thankful for what we have, but not often enough that misfortune can happen to any of us, anytime, and everything that matters can disappear in a heartbeat.

wow i was all set to go and lease with panther until i read this are they not all they say they are i know freight don't pick up till march can you make a living with panther is this quality lease not good they make it sound good

Panther has NOTHING to do with people coming to class with $12.00 to their name. Panther is a very caring company and has help us out many times with things. They are the best company I have EVER been leased on with hands down. We have grown from four trucks of our own back in September of 2008 to fourteen trucks as of January 2012. Since coming to Panther I have been able to do in three years what I wasn't able to do in fourteen at our old carrier. Not saying our old carrier is bad, they would only let someone put on no more than five trucks back then. Maybe they let fleet owners add more now as I don't keep up with FedEx any longer.

Panther and Load1 are the top carriers that treat you like Family.

It's a good thought. Pay it forward I think its called. A man came to Panther Orientation last week with $12 and a Quality lease to own truck. We befriended him so he could eat. And gave him a ride to get his truck fixed. It could be the guy sitting next to you these days, you never know.

I think we met this guy a few days back. Older guy with blue kenworth? He was waiting at the TA in Baltimore to run his first load and said he was strapped for cash. Mentioned also he had alot of problems with his truck on the way to orientation. I wanted to help him a little but was in between bills.
