You can also buy these"white noise" players that will give background noise such as rainfall, ocean waves etc. Last week at the T/A in Knoxville I was parked in the corner at the front of the car parking lot. Huge signs ,"No 18 wheelers". At about 0400 I was rudely awaken by a T/T reefer unit which backed in next to me taking up half of the lot. Outside temperature was about 45,so not only did the reefer run he also idled his tractor. There were plenty of spaces in the back where he could have parked without having to work and manuever.

When I left at 0700 I circled around and gave him/her a nice long wake up air horn call. Juvenile yeah, but it felt good.:p

I'd like to warn people who are forced to lay-over in the Toronto area about smog alerts. Idling of vehicles is banned on SMOG DAYS which are usually the hottest muggiest days of the summer. This is strictly enforced in the downtown area of Toronto. I've yet to see the Smog Patrol go to the truckstops in the suburbs but it could happen.
Idling is an environmental issue; vehicles pollute more when just sitting.
Do other cities in the USA enforce anti-idling laws on smoggy days?

Jeepers Crimany, Broom was making a funny and some of you want to nail him to the cross? What it boils down to is being considerate of others, breathing fresh air with your windows open while you sleep! And yes I have a problem with people running their trucks when it is 50 degrees outside I also have a big problem with people parking their lazy ##### in the fuel island...I am human and I get steamed, do I touch other peoples property "NO" but I get a chuckle when I run through my mind the Big Get Even... Either way I am a considerate person and if you park next to me you will not choke on my exhaust fumes and I sincerely doubt you will choke on Brooms either. Broom rock on! you bring alot to the table.

It's just human nature to want to retaliate, when someon's rudeness wakes you up, and personally, I liked Broom's solution better than Rich's, (it's ok Rich - I should have been up already, anyway) but I don't actually do it, anymore than I sleep with the windows open, because whenever I contemplate doing either, I just see Clint Eastwood, asking "Do you feel lucky?" Then I roll the windows up, sigh, and roll somewhere else to sleep in peace.

My GF drives a str8 truck and she has told her owner about problems with the batteries for the last 3 months. If she shuts the truck off she wakes up needing a jump. The one place she went to said her batteries were ok and there wasn't a problem . But if there isn't anything running except the QC, then there is something wrong. She has had nothing but trouble with this truck in the last 3 months since the owner got work done on it and just last week the fuel pump went out and they said the batteries weren't any good. So she has had to run the truck at night when she sleeps just so she doesn't have to get a jump. The other problem has been with Panther giving her loads and directions only to find out the directions were wrong and wasting time so then her owner gets mad about it. The generator on th etruck doesn't work. The truck is a 99 with almost 600,000 miles on it and i told her it proably needs a over haul and a owner that cares about the truck. I told her to look into another owner. She is on that 60/40 with paying gas and tolls and the tolls were eating her up.She put in home time here in Dallas and Panther was giving her gas money to get down here for this weekend and her owner said no to bring the truck to him in Erie PA. So instead of her doing a few loads and going back up to Erie he has her deadhead 950 miles. I told her she should tell him he wants his truck so bad that he would have to pay her for the loss in income with all those dead miles. She has other offers to drive for owners and i told her to let me see the contract before she goes with someone that won't keep the truck in good running order. So she couldn't help idling all night gents.

It would have made more sense to go home in Dallas and have the truck fixed there. Seems rather simple. What would be the point in going to Erie?
