Idle Aire to Reopen

FYI for those that may have used IdleAire . Got email from IdleAire this morning they have been bought by a Green Investor Group and plan to reopen soon with 30 sites at first. I think the other investor group that bought the company from the bankruptcy court never intended to run the business just make as much money as possible while running it into the ground. IdleAire, Inc. ... the In-Cab Services Leader

Interesting. I would be willing to bet that they are going to have to scavenge parts from many locations to get those up and running. I have seen a lot of damaged equipment at IdleAire sites. It would also be interesting to know if this new group is getting tax incentives to re-open these sites. If so it would not surprise me to see them close it back up as soon as the tax breaks expire. I get skeptical whenever I see the work "Green" in anything these days.

Yes I too have seen damage at some sites it is a shame that people(drivers and who ever else) have to damage other peoples property

It seems to be that way all over the country these days, not just at truck stops. Just look at our cities. Same up in Canada.

IdleAire, a twice-failed company, is destined to fail again, though it may show signs of life from time to time before going finally down. With certified clean-idle trucks rolling off the assembly line, large fleets equipping their trucks with APUs, and major companies dedicating engineering assets to developing hydrogen fuel cell devices designed to replace APUs, the need for no-idle services that are fixed location, high-overhead and labor intensive is fading fast.

Trucks already have TVs in them. E-mail capability is showing up in Qualcomm units. Internet access is provided already by air cards and truck stop Wi-Fi services. The added value that IdleAire once hoped to provide is fast becoming redundant to capabilities trucks now have. A smart phone cannot heat and cool a truck sleeper but it can do most everything else IdleAire tries to provide with those ugly monstrosities that take up space at truck stops and add to the stress levels of drivers who seek to park but do not subscribe to IdleAire.

I think it is just another "tax dodge" thing, nothing more. This new company will use up what federal/state/local dollars they can and then, after it dries up, close up. Then it will happen again. Our fuel tax dollars at work, or "carbon tax" dollars. Just another government boondoggle. Someone being payed off for this or that.

Idle Aire is just ridiculously expensive. It makes way more sense to me to have my "idle air" with me everywhere I go.

Wasnt there someone trying to sell electicity at truckstop individual spaces, or trying to start a co doing this recently? I enjoyed idleaire when I used it while in the s/t.But yes, a motel room would of been cheaper, but I would of had to run either the main engine or gas generator to keep the fridge freezer going anyway.

Ice? No room in my fridge for that, it is too small to hold it, and even if I did get it in the water would really mess up my truck. Man, no room for food either!! That won't work. How about putting stationary bikes connected to generators at all the truck stops to recharge our batteries. We all need the exercise!!! At night we could get convicts to peddle the bikes so we could sleep and still have power!!!

Oh yeah, how stupid of me, it is not the convicts fault that they are criminals. They are victims of their surroundings. Everybody in prison was wrongly convicted as well. They just never received what they were owed by the government so they were forced to become criminals. In a way I am surprised that the government supports crime as much as they do. I mean, after all, you would think that they would not want that much competition!!!! :p

This has been tried before, you sometimes see the "remains" of it in truck stop parking lots. Maybe it will take hold this time, only if it can work without government subsidies.

You are probably looking at the remains of "Park N View". This system only provided TV and Telephone. No AC.

Could be, I don't really know. I have seen two or three different kinds of "remains" at truck stops. Whatever they were there were long gone before my trucking life started.
