the shipper... said..... it was way inside....and had to go thru a lot of walk ways to get there.... and pass's and seeemed like it was a hassel to him. so i said ok . never mind.
soo then he disappeared.....
i went into my truck . in the sleeper and used my own lil bathroom..... then waited in the drivers seat.... for him to come back..
ok..... soo there is NO loading dock..... u have to drive betwen a lot of cars in a parking lot .....
soo the shipping guy......... loads my truck... from the ground and pushs the 4 pallets inside my truck...... with a fork lift..ok
i sign paper workk and lock my doors and leave.
i get 20 maybe 30 min down the road........
and i get at least 3 calls from panther..... about me taking a pallet jack.....
i told them .. Nooo....... i did not take one nor did anyone use one in my truck
they asked if i helped load the truck........ i said........ Noo.......
then they asked again........... are u sure u dont have a pallet jack in ur truck.
i said........ YES i am very sure.
ok......... that was in 2 phone calls........
this gets worse......

If the shipper really thought you stole a pallet jack he should have called the police. I hope Panther figured this out and realized this guy was just trying to create trouble for you.

When I first started with panther, I was seven hours behind schedule on a load because my GPS took a crap, and I had 15 different people trying to beep me and call me at the same time. I was given a load out of PA. somewhere and I had to deadhead about 180 miles in three hours (this was in a cargo van though)! Well, as it turned out, I didn't even have time to stop and take a leak. And even though I was driving a constant 80 miles an hour, I was barely going to arrive at the general vicinity "of where the load was to be picked up at" by the scheduled pick-up time. Of course this shouldn't have been that much of a problem! But, as soon as I got to the city, there were three different plants, and once again, panther did not have local directions. So I sent in my arrived at shipper from the wrong plant. Then almost immediately after, panther removed the arrived at shipper because I was pinging at the wrong address and advised me re-send it once I got to the actual plant that the load was at. Well. as it turns out, it took them two hours to dig up the actual locals to the second plant (which of course was a new addition to the company, and the street was not on an actual map, or GPS yet)! So, I started the run two and a half hours late. Then I went to get fuel. This, of course, took another 30 minutes. Well, when I returned from the pilot (with coffee, cigs, a subway sandwich, and enough fuel to drop 400 miles straight, non-stop, and make up all the lost time) I had 8 missed phonecalls on my cell with a message saying that the state police were on the way to check on me. The drama begins!

Well, this gets worse. I then began to experience problems with my magellan GPS unit. It was turning me around in circles and I couldn't find my way out of this po-dunk town in PA. So, I just broke the thing into pieces and went to make a u-turn in a church parking lot so I could look at my map and then continue on with my own routing (as there were no major highways around me to jus hop onto and start making up time) It was almost as if this freakin town swallowed up my entire van inside a cocoon and was not ever going to let me out of it's ooze. This gets even better! As it turns out, the snow that was covering the gravel did not reveal the soft muddy surface that was beneath the nice thin layer of white dust that had come to rest upon it during the previous days winter storm. I thought I would be able to make the turn because I saw tire tracks from several other vehicles that had made turnabouts in the parking lot with no visible signs of problems. I was wrong! I ended up getting stuck in the mud and had to call a tow truck to and pull me out of there (all the while panther was jumping my a** like a crip who had broken down in a bloods neighborhood). Things were just a mess from the get go on this particular load; and i'm fairly certain that I looked like a big piece of "cow turd" to both the shipper and consignee.

But it had a lot to do with the simple fact that "too many people jumping all over me at the same time." I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I can't function when I have several different people trying to give me directions at the same time. I'm a driver, my job is to get from one point to another in a timely manner. I was in the vicinity of the load "on time" so it's not my fault that "Panther" did not provide me with local directions. Also, if I would have not been so worked up over all of the different people trying to tell me what to do: I could have calmly sat there and mapped out a route, kicked the cruise up to 80, and made the delivery on time on time. But, every 15 minutes they kept saying that I was out of rout and to call them (the relentless ringing-beeping-and-unrelenting-harassment-micro-managing began to take a toll on me to the point where I just didn't care anymore, and I turned my cellphone completely off, and ignored all of their messages). I couldn't get any work done. I had to stop and call in and argue with them for at least three hours. This coupled with the three hours I had to wait while they brought up another driver to swap the load out with me inevitably caused the entire load to be about 7 hours behind schedule. So, I can relate with all these different people pulling you in different directions. It doesn't take much to drive a driver over the top. No pun intended!

Needless to say, this has never happend again. I mean, with Arrow Freight Systems, I have had tight loads. But they were always delivered on time, despite any problem that was encountered, simpley because they never bothered me. They knew I was a big boy and allowed me to do my job in a "stress free environment." Any how, at least the shipper did not get a free pallet jack, and I know you did not take a leak in the guys woods. Anyone who does that is just dumb and should not even be allowed to represent a trucking outfit.

I really don't know what to say other then most drivers today wouldn't of been able to make it as a driver years ago before gps units and or mapping software. When i started driving many many years ago all you were given was an address, city and state. If you had happened to get a phone number that was the icing on the cake, but then again you had to find a pay phone because back then cell phones didn't exist. you left with the name, address, city and state, your trusty atlas and a cb radio. when you got close to your destination you got on your cb and asked for some local info. You had probably an 80% chance some driver had been to where you had to go and told you how to get in there. What also gets me is the (DRIVER DIRECTIONS) on the QC. I've read alot of these and wonder how some of these (DRIVERS) even find their way home.

A dock or warehouse worker who wanted a pallet jack could take it and easily try to explain its disappearance by blaming a truck driver.

Here is another tip if you have a problem finding a street because it may be new and not on any map. If your in the area and can't find the street even the police and fire depts. may not know where it's at. (this has happened to me before), find a pizza place that delivers. the chances are pretty good someone on that street even a business ordered a pizza and had it delivered, and the pizza place notes it on their map.

Morning Star, don't let this get to you - you are better than the shipper.

Here is the thing, if I got the call from an agent asking me the same thing, I would have headed back to the place and told them to take it off my truck just for the accusation that I stole something.

The shipper, who seems to have the same problem as my delivery the other day had, should know better to accuse of anything after they loaded your truck from the ground, how in the 'h' are you supposed to throw a pallet jack into the truck without them seeing it, let alone after he pushed four pallets of stuff in there?

If I was asked if I went in the woods, I would send the agent a picture of my nice portable toilet so they would understand I am completely self contained. I have seen truckers pull into a dock, go to the drains in the back of the truck against the dock and let loose. So I can understand when you may have disappeared and it looked like you may have headed off to the woods. I don't even ask, I will ask to wash my hands (why waste my water) but not to relieve myself.

About directions, I don't even know if my company provides them, I think they do but I don't trust anyone looking things up on the internet to tell me how to get somewhere. I use a few sources - MS S&T (which is 70% accurate), Google Earth, Kingpin, and if I am really stuck I look up the company and get the address or call them. If I was looking for a house, then that's different, most big realitors in the area have more information than the cops or fire department.

Blizzard, I am confused, if you are late to the pick up because of wrong directions and get stuck and all that, how is it that the it is your problem that the shipment is late? I would have had them adjust the time to the 45 mph (or what ever panther uses) to give a new time for a delivery or am I missing something?

I hate to hear of this type of thing happening to anyone. I had a shipper blame me for hitting their building with my trailer when I watched on of their trucks do it and a group of management gathered around. They told me to back in that hole and I didn't think much of it. Once I got in it they went to playing the blame game. The two things they didn't figure into their plan was 1 I was pulling a new trailer with no scratches so I sent the boss a multimedia message on my phone to show the trailer still didn't have any scratches. Secondly they didn't realize my boss had his driver's back no matter what.

When I drove for Larry Fowler Trucking I really respected my boss. If something happened Mr.Larry would talk to you and get all the information before he started pointing fingers. He wouldn't get mad and fly off the handle. He understood somethings happen outside of the drivers control. Unlike Panther. I was late for a drop at a GM plant because I was involved in a hit and run. I called Kansas State Police and they told me to stay where I was. That's why I was late. The Kitty dispatcher told me I should have went to the consignee and then called the police. I guess so I could get in trouble for fleeing the scene of an accident to.

Panther has never told me to break the law. They even rescheduled a delivery to the next day because of their 16 hour rule once. If they ever tell me to break the law I will ask for their supervisor.
