I forgot about another truck stop I got kicked out of. It was the first week they were open, so it may not still be the case where vans are kicked out. But it's a new Flying J about 7 miles west of the Baytown J, TA and Loves. It's at the Sheldon Rd Exit 783 off I-10. It's about half a mile south of the Interstate. Really nice, Arby's, Cinnebon, lots of great PJ Fresh food options.
I filled up out back, went in and got something eat, and then parked out front in the corner and settled in to eat. I hadn't even yet put up the window coverings before a flunky came over and told me that management said no van parking in the lot. I looked around and I was the ONLY vehicle in the entire lot. Not even another one parked in front of the store. I said "Seriously?" He just shrugged. Fine. I moved to Baytown.
An hour later I got the e-mail from PFJ to rate my experience. Oh, they got a full report. So they may have changed their policy by now, I dunno. I haven't been back since.
And there is another one in Houston off I-610 at US 90. It's Exit 24A. I had delivered to the Michelin distribution center and went across the street to the Pilot, got fuel, and went around front to park. The front lot's not particularly small, but it's a busy, busy place with lots of cars and pickups in there which made the lot smaller than it is. As I pulled into a spot on the perimeter an older gentleman in a spiffy PFJ uniform was right there picking up trash or something, and he told me, "I know it sucks, but they'll kick you out after a few minutes. But there is bobtail parking out back where you can park." I went next door to the Loves and they were fine with it.
