I Am Shocked...

How about the ones who walk up to youre vehicle, seeing you are on the phone, and stand there until you roll the window down and ask can I help you? and start talking, and you tell them you will get back to them when you are done on the phone. But the guy will insist on standing there for like 45 minutes until you get off of the phone.Or the ones who will walk up to youre vehicle and just stand there, without knocking. In the dark.A good way to get shot, once discovered.

Or the ones who knock on the side of the van/sleeper and want to talk, not realizing you may be sleeeping at the time.Never knock on a vehicle, unless the driver is in the driver's seat, and not on the phone.

I always say hi or nod if I see someone out,but to walk up and start talking,is something I just don't do.I always think they just finished up a long run and just need to unwind, now if they are there the next day then we might talk.

Only intelligent people are on EO, we are the pick of the litter.
Seriously though, most of the people I've met at the expo were nice and seemed intelligent. Believe it or not there are alot of people of all ages that aren't computer literate, not just older people.
I think most of us on here treat expediting as a business and that is what sets us apart.:)

You ok?

Hit your head lately?

I'm not shocked.

Look I find it interesting that we have maybe three expediter sites in this world and this one gets a lot of traffic but not everyone knows about this one. I just checked the other one and it seems very dead. Maybe they need to change a few things and get rid of a couple people to liven the place up - it reminds me of the bar my uncles went to, all old farts who had nothing to really say, just sat there drinking their whiskey and staring at the bottles on the wall.

Some may think that everyone in the world would be here who is into this profession but like the FedEx web sites, the Landstar web sites and others, no one seems to know about them or this site.

Promote this one, great but ...

Note to Lawrence send us some promo items to hand out or use to get the word out. Calenders, shirts, stickers, pens are a great start.

The t shirts were a great idea, [one Mr Goodtude had years ago, which inspired me to make some, with "EO junkie and proud of it!" on the back, lol] and ballcaps would be good too.
I'd also suggest making the bumperstickers a bit larger - they dont really stand out, unless you're looking for them - which those who don't already know EO aren't.

You should have never invited me into your truck.

No way, Dude!! Everything you touched has been left unwashed and I regularly chant The Mantra while kneeling in front of those areas.

I have a nice white empty canvas(the side and back of my truck) An EO ad would look very nice on it :D

Man, that's the truth. It's a significant majority percentage from what I've seen. You'd think at this point the carriers, particularly the ones who advertise here, would be mentioning it in orientation or something. Lawrence needs to make some phone calls.

During our recent visit to FDCC dispatch I mentioned EO to the dispatcher we were sitting with (who's been there a long time), and she acted as though she'd never heard of it. Made a point to write down the name so she could look it up.

I guess it's the best kept non-secret in the industry.

Spoke to an E-1 driver at the S. Tryon Wal-Mart Monday. No unit number, gray Ford van, with TN tag. The shocking part? He said he didn't know OVM!!! How can that be?

He was not truthful with ya. He knows him and of him. Like most of us, he just will not admitt it.....

I have not noticed but am interested to hear what you base your observation on. There have always been some expediters that are as you describe but as a group they seem to be savvy, sociable, etc. What changes have you noticed exactly?

Well, first of all I drive a van and meet mostly van drivers. I don't know that this matters, it just happens to be the case. My observation has been a comparison between now and, let's say, 2 years ago. The drivers I used to meet were often retired military, teachers, autoworkers, or former professionals on their second career, etc. Most of them were owner operators. Most had a good attitude, were pleasant, approachable, and enjoyable to pass time with. There are still some of these folks out here but it seems to me they fewer and farther between. I have noticed, and a number of my peers have noticed a trend toward less owner operated vans and, IMHO, a less professional, more adversarial, less clean, inarticulate type of driver. I hate to sound pompous but it's just the way I see it.

Dispatchers will find the information, topics and discussions of EO very boring very quickly. Imagine www.expeditedispatchersonline.com where they talked about different phone and computing techniques, tips and tricks, and various banal droning of their daily work life. Not many expedite drivers are gonna hang out there, either. :D

I wonder why a $10 an hour dispatcher needs to be looking at a website, do your job and keep the trucks moving.

$10 an hour? They need to get a bunch of mexicans who'll work their as*es for $5 an hour! teach em' the words they need to know and they're on their way....

Yea that's the ticket. They won't argue with the driver and may actually agree with a better rate.
