LITTLE ROCK — Interstate 40 could remain closed at the bridge over the White River in Arkansas for several more days.
Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department spokesman Glenn Bolick said Sunday the crossing could remain barricaded through Wednesday.
Bolick says the bridge is fine, but the approaches to the bridge in both directions remain under water and will have to be inspected after the water finally recedes.
The highway has been closed since Thursday, forcing motorists to take lengthy detours on rural roads to get through east Arkansas.
The National Weather Service says the White River has crested at the bridge, but that flood water will remain for days.
