Hurricane Irene's full force struck the North Carolina coast early Saturday morning near Morehead City and Atlantic Beach. My son, who rents a house in Jacksonville,NC, lost electrical service at the onset of the storm, but never lost cell phone service or running water at any point. Jacksonville radio is telling residents to expect electrical service to be restored possibly by Wednesday.

With North Carolina and Virginia absorbing the brunt of Hurricane Irene, the storm's ferocity began to subside somewhat as it moved north toward NYC and the New England states. The political grandstanding by Mayor Bloomberg of NYC and Gov. Christie of New Jersey started on Thursday and continued to escalate almost unabated. Mass transit was shut down out of an abundance of caution. No politician wants to be the next Ray Nagin or Gov. Blanco. Now, some New Yorkers will be angry for the inconveniences put upon them. Were Bloomberg and Christie right to use the force of government in this instance?

yes they were right in every way.I mean think about new orleans and katrina.Yes there was alot of news coverage but not to the extent that Irene has recived.Look at the ammount of people that chose to stay in N.O because they had been through it before and it was never as bad as they said it was going to be(Yes I know there were some that had no way out).Look how many were trapped and even died because of it.NO one wants to be seen as another Nagin,Blanco most of all no one wanted to be seen as another BUSH.If people get mad over being forced to go to Safty they will get over it.
