These are a few of the basics I carry in my meddic bag.

Nitrile or synthetic exam gloves. at least four pairs
They should fit snug but comfortable, and watch the expiration date.
1) penlight or mini Maglite.
1) Box bandaids.
10) 4"x4" Sterile gauze pads. If somone bleeds through 10 4x4s they will need the following.
6) Wrapped O.B. a.k.a. feminine Maxi pads. No, seriously these are for the really
bad bleeds. Make sure they are plain no perfume etc.
1) Roll 2 inch silk tape.
1) Roll ductape
3) Triangular bandages.
1) Bottle isoprophyl Alcohol.
1) Elastic bandage
1) C.P.R. rescue mask. The new hands only cpr is a waste of time and energy.
1) Each trama sheers, forceps, roll of plastic wrap, first aid book, cream or jell for
bug bites, Tylenol,
2) Ziplock bags,
1) Kitchen trash bag
1) Bottle anti bacterial soap, and alcohol jell for when water is not available.
1) Pockett Notebook and pen
A B.P. cuff and stethescope are helpful but not a deal killer.
Take a first aid class they are often offered at voulenteer fire halls for free or verry cheap and you will know how to use the supplies.

Stay safe.

Add a couple of paint stirring sticks to your bag. (There usually free at Lowes and Home Depot) They make great splints. With some of your duct tape or an ace wrap you can easily immobilize an ankle, leg, arm, etc.

Thanks jjoerger, I realized when Iwent to bed I forgot a couple items one being splint suplies. Paint sticks and popsicle sticks work. as well as pillows and tape.
Also add.
1) Roll 2 inch
2) Rolls of 3 inch will cover almost everything.
2) Roll 4 inch
I you want to purchase a basic kit already set up look on GALLS.com and you can have a realy nice kit and bag for under 100 bucks and you might be able to deduct it from the taxes.
Im trying to keep it basic as I know not everyone is working in the EMS field.
BRADY publishes good training books both for EMS and NON EMS responder well worth the money.
I am also going to look check with my EMS captain and find out if I can offer a first aid show and tell here on E.O. without opening up a major problem. Because we are often the first on location of an accident.
Any other ideas? bring them on.
