how to get a new truck on the road?

I am new in the expediting, I live in Colorado. I have purchased a good used truck in Indiana and I will be leasing to FedEx. The truck used to be leased with FedEx and the dealer has put updated DOT stickers on it. The dealer will give me temp permits and Expediters management services will provide the insurance. I have not picked the truck up yet. What else do I need to do to get this truck ready for the road?

Zenrider: not sure what you're asking - if you have insurance and plates/permits, the truck is ready to drive, is it equipment you want to know about?

No offence,wouldnt it have been a good idea to know all this information before buying.I hate to say this it is like buying a fishing boat getting out in the lake.You cass your line ready to fish, and then damm, the boat has hole's in it and you sink.

If "all this information" means the mechanical condition of the truck, I assumed it had been done already, and the OP is asking about securement equipment - but there's really not enough info to answer the question.

I want to know about the plates and permits, I am assuming FedEx will provide those. I just wanted to ask here to make sure I am not missing anything.
As for equipment, its all ready for FedEx. It has all the load bars, cargo blankets, pallet jack, hand cart and straps.

I believe FeDex doesn't provide Plates. At least they didn't when I signed. In CA getting platescan be a real ordeal. I don't know about Colorado. You'd better call ur recruiter because I'm pretty sure you can't work without a plate.

I had my plate before I picked up the truck. My d3ealer gave me the vin and I did the Pwork in dvance so I would have plate in hand when I took delivery of the truck. I thought everyone did it that way.

You licensed your truck in California I take it. Did you have the title in hand when licensing the truck? The title for my truck is still with the dealer.

I talked to a newbie yesterday who was having his truck delivered to California from North Carolina and going to drive it all the way back to FedEx for his orientation. I would think that if you are buying it in North Carolina and signing on with FedEx, you should take a trip to pick it up and than drive it to Green OH to take orientation with the truck so they can install the EOBR unit, the signs and the purple pom pom holder (I just had to say that).

Get the title first and then WHAT you should do is call your state DMV office and ask them what you need to do to get an Apportioned Plate (You can also ask them about applying for the title) - assuming it is over 26k GVW. Get your plate, go get the truck and take it to FedEx. FedEx will provide all the permits, your IFTA stickers (which I'm still assuming it is over 26k GVW) and will help you with the other stuff.

I think the dealer needs to send the title and lien holder info directly to my state/county DMV

To answer the other guy's question. Its a reefer straight truck with a sleeper

Call your DMV and ask them if that is OK.

Why get a reefer truck? I hope it is over 18 feet of floor space.

I am also curious about the choice of a reefer truck, as I am pretty sure you have to be white glove to get reefer loads.

Its a class C truck with 16ft refeer box. The truck used to be in their Tval fleet.

I did all the paperwork in advance of picking up the truck. Churnys sent me a copy of the title, weight cert, and other stuff. I then ordered the plates when they arrived I flew to ohio and got the truck.

As for taking delivery in CA that may turn out to be a mistake because ca will charge sales tax on the transaction I believe. I avoided the tax because I picked up in Ohio and put the truck into service immediately.

Taking delivery of anything in ca is a NO NO. I even have to file a separate tax return for mail order items bussiness use or not. CA is a real pain in the azz.

Why?

I don't get this.

If the truck is less than two years old, I can see it IF you are experience and are already within the fleet as an owner but with an older truck, it really isn't worth the effort with FedEx because I have a gut feeling they will be making another change to their fleet ... just maybe.
