OK EVERYONE THIS IS MY FIRST POST :)

MY QUESTION IS, HOW DO YOU FIND A DRIVER THAT REALY WANTS TO RUN ?

I have a couple of units and I'm looking for drivers who realy want to run. Ive had drivers in the past who say they want to work but they refuse 75% of the runs offered. This may not be the correct area to post this but is there anyone out there who is looking for a chance to make money?

I think the question that possibly needs to be asked is whether they are making any money? If they are refusing that many loads, one would have to review their loads to see if they are making a livable wage. Short runs and excessive deadhead may be killing their wage. The type of units that you have could also be an issue.
Just my opinion

I'm with DaveKC on this one. I can't imagine turning down even ONE load if it's making me money. Is it possible they are poor and can't afford being offered 3 loser loads per 1 money load? Check your records because this does happen. A lot. Just my opinion also.

I'm with TMD on this one. We average $1.65 ALL miles. Most people have been disappointed by empty promises. Those empty promises are largely a result of the events that (if merely an owner leased to a carrier) cannot control. However, I find that when people get a few days living in the bank, they want to lay down instead of getting a few months living in the bank. That seems to be todays attitude toward finances (hand to mouth). Unfortunately, there have been a couple of folks that I would have given the opportunity, but, they looked past this Ma and Pa operation for a grand opportunity and ended up with that bird in the bush. To answer your question TMD, I don't know.

What you need are good workoholics or someone with a TON of debit and can't afford to stop. Saidly most of those people already have jobs. And workoholics are in short supply. People with a ton of debit are all filling bankruptcy before they laws change..

Guess good drivers are hard to find.

There is that driver that wants a 110" sleeper......

alright I'll stop being funny.

If the freight is there, and no strings attached, I would fly out of bed on a Sunday morning if that kinda ad was in the paper!!! LOL
I guess no load needs to be turned down these days unless it is 300 miles deadhead to do a 100 mile run at 0.60 cents/mile and no fuel surcharge or deadhead money involved.
If it is not forced dispatch, no cheating on the wages, no ripp-off on insurance and qualcom, I say, what are some people waiting for? Or better, what are they looking to get???

To my knowledge, I am not aware of any company that pays $1.65 for all miles. In fact, there isn't a company out there that pays that except for white glove or special services loads. And that still wouldn't be ALL miles.
There is always a first time..............who is it? Or is it a secret?

If I remember correctly, x06col IS the company?

Is that not correct x06col? You are the owner, you have your own authority, running your own trucks, not leased to anyone?

I am looking for an honest truck owner. Over the last 6 years I have been cheated out of about $4000. These dishonest owners don't have to pay and they know it. They give me a bad taste for an otherwise great job.
If I could, I would buy a truck,at least I know I wouldn't cheat me.}>

Well, I know how to find drivers that will run very hard and be mad when you put them in a hotel all expenses paid while you have the truck they are driving fixed. That is the easy part.

What I dont know how to do is find hard running drivers that will bring trucks back in the shape they picked up in and with all the belongings inside. If you still want my info drop me a personal note.

I believe I typed "we average $1.65 per mile, all miles" Didn't type anything about a company paying $1.65 per mile. That by the way is, All TAX MILES DRIVEN. You gotta think outside the box davek.
And yes, I am the company

I am half of a team who loves to run, otherwise we wouldn't be out here. The problem is finding a company who will send loads out for us to run. We don't own our own truck and are contracted with a small fleet owner who is contracted with ConWay Now. Since we switched to ConWay last August, we have had only one good month and are ready to either find another company or go home. We don't turn down loads unless the offer is just unprofitable. We were contracted with Tri-State prior to this and thought we were not doing very good especially since they let us sit in Laredo for 10 days last July without a load offer. Is there any company doing better for their independent contractors?

I misunderstood your post. I thought that was the rate you pay your drivers verses what you charge as a company. You right, big differences between the two.
I will say though, several others interpreted it as I did. Sorry about that.

Very good point, confident_realm. We don't own our truck either and so far this year have gone backwards financially even if you take out the home and truck repair downtime!

As with you, we do feel sorry for the owner (I've been there and lost) because it does cost money for them even when the truck is sitting.

The thing i don't understand is why in the H#@L do we also now have to compete with the new ConWay company-financed vehicles! Do they actually expect us to believe that when the loads are down their company-financed vehicles won't be favored for loads?

Where's the turnip truck? I just fell off!
