How to be a good team member??

What I meant was shifts from 4a-4p not 8a-8p. The biggest mistake they made in the new HOS was mandating an 8 hour sleeper berth to stop the clock instead of a 5 hour sleeper berth.

ROYAL_FLUSH I worked for a O/O that he and his wife would go out if a truck was down because the team was on vacation or something like that,I know he'd drive 12- 16 hrs straight and she'd drive for a couple hrs.She never drove in towns or to the del or pu just always on the Interstate LOL...

I don't ever mind if someone wakes me up because their too tired. I would rather get up and drive, then have to wake up, upside down in a ditch somewhere.

But when you get woke up at every city, drop off, pickup, scale, fuel stop, ect.. It's get's to the point that I haven't slept at all myself, and I become a complete A hole..

I would also be interested in how you guy's handle hotel rooms, food, ect. Right now I pay 100% of hotel, grocieries for the truck, ect.. But after advancing a person 100.00 for the week, I would think that if we stop at a truck stop or McDonalds that I shouldn't be "expected" to pay also?? What do you think?

Flatbedin - you are being taken advantage of, bigtime! Codrivers should be splitting everything 50-50, or as close to it as possible. Just because you're the owner, doesn't mean you should pay for the groceries, or the hotel - it's a business relationship, not a date, for cryin out loud!
If you can't find a codriver who's willing to share the load equally, you're better off driving solo, IMO.

When it's obvious he has money, tell him so. Start making a list of what he spends, and once the paychecks come in, deduct it. Granted, my nephew hasn't gotten a check yet. If I give him $100 it's gone pretty fast. He also knows it's coming out of his check. Then once he gets a good sized check, he's on his own for food. I'm not in this to do him favors. He knows his responsibilities, and one of mine is not to babysit.

I have to agree with Cheri!! There is nothing wrong with picking up the tab - once in awhile - for a meal but everytime?? If your co-driver is eating the food that is in the truck, then he should split the cost. Either that or you tell the co-driver that you are stopping to grab some groceries for yourself and that if they want anything, they are more than welcome to come along. That way, you buy what you like and they buy what they like - two separate bills.
