How much time?

Can anyone tell me an approximate length of time it would take to move 360 pallets (standard size, stackable, not heavy) from one location to another location one mile away? I'm assuming that would be 9 truckloads of 40 pallets each (20 spots stacked)? Assume that the forklift driver on each end would load/unload you right away...

Could this be done in one business day? Two?

Are there any independents out there who would hazard a guess as to what they would charge to do this? ie hire themselves and their truck out for a day (or two?), put on say 17 miles, no labor.. just mostly time.. ?

Thanks for any insight!

It shouldn't take any longer than 1½ hours per trip. If you charge by the hour that could speed the process. A 48' or 53' trailer would eliminate one trip.

If I did something similar, only on a smaller scale with my van, I would charge a minimum of $60/hour.* Tractor/trailer probably about $120/hr.*

Have fun! Bring a lunch and a good book.

*All dollar amounts U.S. dollars.

I would do it in a straight truck for $600 a day and plan on at least 2 full days.

If the loaders scream loading and unloading it will take a mininum of 2 hours to load/ unload, and drive( if it's happening at a Ford plant forget that scenario). Anyways driving time, etc,etc.. 9 - 53' trailers single drivers one day. 18 hours but, a single driver can only drive 10/11 hours.

If this is local work..you could go off the book on this job...

14 hrs for loading and unloading,3.5 hrs total driving time.this is in a tractor with 53' trailer.you can put 52 skids if dbl stacked on a 53 ft trailer. This would be 7 loads.
with the 14 hr clock, this would be 2 days of 8 hrs each

What am I missing? A pallet is 48x48x4 but let's say 48x48x5 for easier math. With a 90" door height that's 18 pallets in a stack and two stacks wide is 36 pallets. It takes 20 floor spots for 360. With a 22' box that's 10 floor spots meaning two trips with 180 pallets each trip or one trip with a 53'.

Excellent! Thank you for everyone's responses.

LDB, I missed saying that the skids would be like 4' tall also, so that's the piece you're missing, sorry.

Nightcreacher, what would you charge according to your summary?

Sounds like I'll be looking at $1200-$1500 (in USD of course, which would translate into.. about the same)? (Unless we can rent a 16' straight and find a driver to do it for $20-$30/hr?)

OK, I thought it was moving 360 empty pallets. At 4' tall that's 2 per floor spot making it take so much longer. Makes perfect sense now, well, except for Moot's comments. :D
