How many miles to the first oil change on a new engine?

Re:Initial Oil Change

I'd look in the engine owner's manual and go with the manufacturers recommendation. After the initial change (again, keeping with the manufacturer's recommendation) I'd be looking to run synthetic oil.

should have add gas or diesel, as there is a big differents in oil changes as in diesel able to go 10,000 miles as to a gas wouldn't know

RE: Re:Initial Oil Change

For my specific application Valvoline makes an oil that has Cummins official blessing to increase the factory service interval by 10,000 miles. For severe duty that goes from 10k to 20k I think, normal duty something like 20k to 30k and light duty which is the category I will be in goes from 35k to 45k if you use the specific Valvoline oil. I'm thinking I'll use it and do oil sampling to determine drain interval starting at the original factory suggested 35k and then 40k and 45k if prior sampling indicates doing so.
