Yeah we all stray from the original questions from time to time but sometimes the stray is more interesting.

I was at con-way now for three years do to drivers liscense issues with fedexcc. At Con-Way I was running 200000 a year and making less money than here at fedexcc, and here I only run 135000 miles per year.
Flat rate is ok,if you dont understand how to run your business, all you need to know with flat rate is how many miles you need to pay your bills, but in percentage,I'm told what money I'm getting,I figure my money per mile, thats all the miles including the dead head and bottom line is,if it meets my needs I do the load
I'm in expedite cause the name of this game is run smarter, not harder

I don't think whether your on percentage or milage has anything to do with whether you are running you business profitably.
If you know what your cost per all miles needs to be, I don't think either matters.
Only difference is one requires verification of what the customer actually paid.

So I'm a bad businessman because I choose to run for a company that pays flat rate? Would I be a good businessman if I ran solo for fxcc; even tho I gross a helluva lot more per week with my current company? I think you need to rethink your thinking. Simpler doesn't necessarily mean less business savy.

Unfortunately Dave, ya can't have it both ways. Seem we have to choose one or the other. Share in the wealth and gamble a bit on percentage, or, live with your guarantee.

We do alittle of percentage, however Panther pays milage. Some of the loads we have brokered have been percentage, but not all.
Bottom line is what it pays per ALL miles.

thawk, guess your not in a tractor, cause I can run single at the fed,and make more money than what the recruiter offered me at panther
I'm sorry to argue with you,but running single in expedite,is a hard way to make a living,of course you guys at panther do many back haul loads, cause of your flat rate.I run less miles and make more money, like Ive said many times,It's not working harder but working smarter

>Dave I agree that in percentage doing broker loads, your not really knowing what the gross pay is,If the fed gives me a mileage,I can fig to the penny what my pay is,so I dont feel I'm being ripped off,or they are skimming from the top,now I can't say what happens with the loads they broker out,as I do know they broker some of their freight
