They were decent mileage and decent pay so no complains and this is typically a slow time of the year. So this is not a surprise.

Eric... I'd think twice about the pink slip. The way things are now, I think it would be foolish to jump ship, especially to a smaller carrier. I heard today that FXCC bid $150 lower on an already low rate. So, yes, it's THAT bad out here for freight. We're on a $200 ltl from MS to MI, only because it picked up down the road from where we were, and drops off down the road from where I live. We were offered a .67/mi expedite van load today, with around 100 mi dh on each end. I don't know how ppl can survive on that. It's like we (expediters) are being sold "backhauls" no matter where we go.

I have a feeling the customers aren't getting all those savings. My guess is the brokers are fighting to keep their previous lifestyles intact. Tho, enough of them are going under as well. Regardless, they expect us to run for fuel money and Pilot hotdogs.

no we are not an elite truck and that is why i don't complain to much about my low load count i have not done alot to raise it yet.

as for turning down 1.10-1.20 loads i have had to swalled the pride here resentaly a bit. if i wait 4 days for that 1.35/+ .25 fsc load that is 600 plus miles and it costs you 100 bucks a day to run ,i dought anybody is that cheap just throwing easy numbers, you would lose money becouse that is 500 for the truck right there not counting food and ect for that time period if you had taken a load in the interem that was at 1.10 and eneded up paying you 150(after fuel) or so that take that 500 you made for the bigger run and turns it into profit now becouse you have paid of a day and a half to two days of your min operaing cost.

and in reguards to other posts

but i love the griller buffet at pilot

Hawk I am not talking about my business giving pink slips. I am talking about Panther themselves giving in house employees pink slips. I could see that happening in each company.

My situation is different. My drivers are running out of cash because a few of them have not moved since they took a few days off before Christmas. They are stuck in Detroit and Columbus OH areas with a mass pile of trucks. One guy has been number two on the board since January second. I warned them about going out of service before Christmas. I told them to stay on the board and not worry about getting a load. That way they when the mass puts themselves back in service you can get out that much faster. Detriot board says 13 a day and my driver has been stuck at number four for three days after dropping from number eleven to four on Monday.

Three trucks have produced three loads since the week of Christmas. Thats not even enough to cover expenses of the truck. I have enough to make it through a few months of this but my drivers do not and they are the life of the business.

Ahhh... now I feel stupid. LOL

If MI and OH are that log jammed, why not spend some of that money moving your trucks south or west? Or, they could move to PA and do some runs to the Northeast. But my recommendation would be WI, TN, or the Carolinas.

Star... Pilot hotdogs aren't a bad thing... unless it's your main staple. I'm guessing they'll be the four food groups for many more if prices keep going down.

Ahh, dedicated. I learned to stay away from dedicated a long time ago. One way in particular.

Sure I would have moved them if I knew it was going to be more then a week. I figured being at the top of the board while sitting at home would be good. The truck is not running even though I have generators in the truck. Plus they are in their own bed. Being down the bottom would be different. I would have moved them right away. Position one or two it's hard to give that up.
