How is your 2012 so far?

Very first week was marginal at best for a variety of reasons. After that, it ramped up nicely. Turned out to be a pretty decent month and still a couple of days to go.
Noticed out of the gate a lot of cheap freight floating out there (especially TX) that we wouldn't run. That seems to have dissipated and the weather has been very nice and cooperative overall for a January.

Diane and I have had a great January, 2012, but have not made a dime with the truck. We and it are parked at our Florida vacation house to avoid winter driving and pursue other interests. We will return to the road in mid-February.

One January highlight was Landstar BCO Appreciation Days. We are new to Landstar and attended for the first time this year. It's a good event and we plan to attend again next year. Interested people can read about the event in my 01/26/12 - 01/28/12 blog entries.

I guess we have been nowhere near the places that your trucks have been running.:D

Trucks have been running quite a bit in the south, but the loads we had taken up north had generally been snow and super cold free. As for Florida, yep, will be here at the house till sometime in April.

This would have probably been our best month so far, except for TVAL testing right off the bat, and a couple of truck issues over the last week. (We lost 2 very good loads when our truck had "issues" at the last moment.)

We have been busy when the truck was in service, and the loads paid very well. We've only had 10 loads, with freight on the truck 14 days this month (counting tomorrow and Tuesday) and still grossed almost $11,000 to the truck. The two loads we lost would have brought in almost $5,000 for 4 days work. :(

As we close out the first month of the year I would like to ask how everyone's year going so far? Our year started off better than last year and we are up as a fleet on everything. That is to be expected as we have grown our fleet by four trucks for the same time last year. I hope everyone is doing great and making money.

Two straight trucks, two companies; one (solo) a bit slow, but had three runs this week which is fairly typical. One, part of the month solo, part of the month team - a bit slower than what I would have thought but switching from a solo to a new team in the middle of the month was seamless, so not as bad as it could have been - just none of the great runs that help from time to time. And as this is my first January, not sure if it's typical or not. I will say the rates seem a bit lower though, for both trucks.

Went into service Jan 9. Did a run to Amarillo then DH'ed to Dallas.
Got a call that there had been a death in my wife's family. (Not unexpected) Got a run to Florida 100 miles south of where we needed to go. Been OOS taking care of family business.
We were only in service 6 days so not much to evaluate the month on.

Aaah, I think Bruno was asking about how the workload is going, but since you seem to be looking for love [or something like it], try telling the girls about the machete in the pants. I guarantee it's one 'icebreaker' they haven't heard before, and it might be a winner, lol. :D

Don't forget the celery stalks hanging from the rearview mirror. It worked for Bernie. At least I think it worked for Bernie. Whatever happened to Bernie? Did he ever find that skinny chick?

Oh yeah, 2012. So far so good. I called it quits for a week or so on Friday morning. I delivered about 20 miles from my house and had to be home by today anyway. I've got a dentist appointment today and then I'm babysitting the dog for the week while my wife is away on business.

Historically my Januarys are usually pretty good. I go back into service after New Years day and am the only van in Minneapolis. This month started with a load on the 3rd and ended on the 27th. Total of 10 loads for 4824 miles. The shortest load was 139 miles and the longest was 846 miles. One reduced rate load at 367 miles that got me to within 20 miles of home. I wouldn't refuse that one. Thank you Panther!

CAME OUT ON THE 2ND AND RAN GOOD FOR 2.5 WEEKS CLOSE TO 10000 FOR THE MONTH 12000 TO 14000 WOULD BE NICE BUT IVE BEEN IN THE SAME SPOT FOR 5 DAYS THEY SAY FREIGHT IS SLOW BUT NOT ACCORDING TO OTHER POSTS HERE I REALIZE THAT THE COMP. IS HAVEING APPROX. 60 % TURNOVER RATE WHAT ARE THE COMP. MANAGERS DOING TO CORRECT THIS.
WHEN YOU LET YOUR TRUCKS SIT THIS LONG THEY ARE GOING TO LEAVE IF YOU CANT GIVE THE TRUCKS YOU HAVE 2500 TO3200 A WEEK DONT ASK THEM TO COME OUT FROM HOME, I REALIZE YOU HAVE TO COVER YOUR COUSTOMER BASE BUT DEADHEADING A TRUCK THAT HAS BEEN HERE AWILE MABY BETTER THAN PUTING 10 NEW TRUCKS ON WEEK AFTER WEEK.
WHY DONT THEY ASK THE DRIVERS THEY HAVE FOR SUGGESTIONS, MABY WE HAVE A THOUGHT ON THIS.

I was home for the holidays and came back out on Jan 9th. Since then I've had 6 loads, 1492 miles, 594 DH + 263 EM. Wrong place at the wrong time, apparently. A lot. Still, amazingly, even with all those unladen miles, my rate per mile is, uhm, very good. Above the average for loaded miles for most, actually. Can't complain. :)

I'm guessing he did, as we haven't heard from him since you advised him to hang the celery [because "skinny chicks dig creativity - and celery sticks."] He could at least have said thanks, right?

Someday, when someone puts together a Best of EO Threads thingie, you know that'll be in there, lol. :D
