Humble,
Sometimes products are created with a middle of the road people in mind. Many of these products do work well for most but it is something that people need to discuss with their Doctor first if they have other issue.
This is stating the obvious and it was pointed out to you by Nutrisystem right at the bottom of the Nutrsystem order form where it states:
Important Health Information
You may not use a Nutrisystem program if you are (a) pregnant, (b) nursing, (c) under 18 years of age, (d) anorexic or bulimic, or (e) allergic to peanuts. Nutrisystem is a portion-controlled, low-fat, reduced calorie comprehensive weight loss program. The required dose of medications can be affected by change of diet or weight loss. Your physician may need to reduce your medications due to changes in your diet or weight loss while on this program. Please consult your physician before beginning a Nutrisystem program, or any other weight loss program. Please be sure to eat all the food that is recommended on the Nutrisystem program. Failure to follow the program protocol and eat all of the food recommended may involve the risk of developing serious health complications
I won't get into a discussion with you, I have a fruit and sugar intolerance that limits me in many ways. I have not found a dietitian who understands what they means or can setup a good diet - they seem to follow the same guidelines and I have been told it is impossible for someone to have a fruit intolerance.
Okay, then I will just discuss it by myself and if you have any comments please feel free.
Any decent licensed dietician or nutritionist should understand the food intolerance issues that you describe. Food intolerance is very prevalent and is often confused with food allergies. There are many who specialize in special circumstance diets and can utilize a good elimination type diet to zero in on the best plan for you. I would encourage you to keep looking for one with that specialty.
I personally have an intolerance to many fruits so I have eliminated both fruits and processed sugar from my diet with good results. FYI- A red bell pepper has more vitamin C than an orange and broccoli is also a good source of C and other phytonutrients
However I have access to a lot of doctors with MD and a lot of other letters behind their name and they have been advising me for a while - I didn't take their advice about the boxed food. They also agree with my position that Dietitians are not doctors..
This is an area that confuses many people. Medical doctors do not receive adequate training in diet and nutrition from medical school and really are not qualified to give advise in this area unless they have additional training. The reason it is always advisable to see your physician before embarking on a new diet is because it is assumed that the Doctor will at least have the knowledge of how a particular dietary change might effect your medications and your condition and inform you of any changes needed.
The fact the dieticians are not medical doctors does not make them less qualified to advise someone regarding nutrition it actually makes them better qualified. As a matter of fact many doctors would rather refer you to a dietician than to advise you in an area outside of their expertise.
The product is good for many, but it is not good for all. If you think I am the only one, call up Nutrisystems and talk with their people - they told me I am not the only one who has had serious problems by any means and they refunded the balance for the food I purchased without a problem. I got a follow up call from one of there staff doctors who knew about the issue but didn't think it was worth putting an advisory out on the site. .
Nutrisystem does not have any medical doctors on staff. They receive input from two medical doctors who are on their advisory board and conduct research in their specialties of Bariatrics and Obesity. The doctor on staff is a Ph.D. I cannot help but suspect that there is some embellishment along with some internet literary license taking place here
Good luck in overcoming your challenges if you so desire and congratualations to all the drivers who have made the commitment to improve their health!
