Back then when Dave was younger he used to sleep for free if he watered the horses and read them bedtime stories
( sorry just had to say it)
Some truck stops had rooms. Many Union 76 truck stops had small rooms with a black and white TV and a twin bed. A common bathroom with showers was down the hall. All of this for under $10 a night.
Where are they parking? Last time I was at the Detroiter, IHOP didn't want vans parking in front.Judging by the last few months of drive bys the Detroiter is coming back to life..Allmost any given day lately there is 10 to 20 some vans on layover there.

Most of the two story TA's were Union 76's.Moot I remember those Rooms. The Old TA in Perrysburgs had rooms upstairs you could get really cheap.

Before that we had Radio Shack. They had lots more range than QC. Autopage also had one with better range.I remember the good old QUALCOMM pagers. Would go to a WalMart and point the van towards the store , send the wife in and send a test message and see if it set the pager off. If it didn't only one of us would shop. Anyone else used this procedure? We also used it at other various spots.
Most automotive, but I lived on "Auto Alley" (I -75")How many miles a week did you run back then? How many per year?
Were there any coast to coast runs?
Weren't most of the runs automotive?
Any loads to Laredo?
I was under the impression that most of the loads were short (200-300 miles) into and out of Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.
Ahhh the QC pager. I still have mine in a box, along with some other vintage pagers. Maybe we should open an expediter museum
