How do you turn off the QC after turning off the e

Ok maybe this was in another post, and I can't find anything in the search menu. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who knows how to turn off the qc when you turn the ignition off in the van so that the qc doesn't drain the battery. I remember a Panther driver showing me once but forgot. All I remember is that you have to scroll down w/ the arrows type in some code and hit the enter button or something like that. Just wondering if anyone remembers since I already had to replace the battery on my 2007 E 350. Manufacturers put in those darn junky batteries. Thanks

Your Q.C. should be programed to enter into a sleep mode after 30 to 40 minutes. You may have something else drawing down your battery.

I can turn mine off by simply turning the key on and off quickly

Your QC can be programmed to shut down at any time frame. Many folks start out at either four hours or 30 minutes, or so. Mine is set for ten hours, but I have it connected to two auxiliary batteries, isolated from the van's starting battery.

If you must shut off, try flicking your ignition switch on then off rapidly; that works on some vehicles. Failing that hit option then a couple of down arrows until you get the screen that shows "unit address" key in that 4, 5, or 6 digit number, hit enter then down arrow until you get a screen that says "do you want to restart unit"?, depress the Y key and it'll shut off IF your ignition is off.

Many drivers have installed a cutoff switch in the power supply line. I would suggest you ask your carrier for the best way to control your QC on time.

Thanks terry. There is many of time that my qualcomm will need to be restarted when i'm driving and such. It like to lose sat connection alot. So i stop and then shut the engine off and then back on. Gets annoying.

I would go with the toggle switch, there are other bonuses to having a toggle switch to turn the qc off, I can think of a few, I am sure you can to.

60MPH,
I know what your talking about, and some aluminum foil on the bubble will do the same thing. Just tape it on their if you want to run with it on. If anyone gives you a hard time about it I guess you could just say you wanted it chromed out. Just Kidding.:+ But it really does work so I've been told.

you ever hear of a fuse,if you want to disapear, just pull the fuse, beats climbing to put tin foil on dome
most companies will have a problem with the toggle switch,if warantee work needed will be in trouble as can loose warantee with the toggle switch,so just pull the fuse, and if you have the black box, twist of the fat cable disconnects

Terry...I just had a new "Black Box"installed. The new new one wont do this. Unit restarts even with key OFF.

What's the deal with the black boxes? I guess I could understand if you were hauling A&E loads they may need to track you closely. Other than that I don't understand it. I watched a documentry on Discovery Channel once about hauling explosives and what not. They showed a d-unit that was a company truck with Tri State Motor Transit out of Jolin.Mo. The truck was a Pete 379 and it had various sized cargo boxes on it and it was loaded from the sides. Any way they were riding with the driver and he pointed out that he had a panic button on the dash. Anytime he felt in danger or if he had an accident all he has to do is press that button and the authorites will be on their way. I can understand that. I know a guy who works for a company where they load some of that stuff and it's nothing to play with. They need to be tracked, but Joe Schmoe out there hauling general freight doesn't need to be tracked like that. It's a waste of resources IMO.

The new Qualcomm OmniVision version (old version is OmniTracs) has an antenna bubble, keyboard/display (Media Display Unit), and a black box (the Multiple Application Server) that has expansion ports like a USB port for connecting it to a laptop, RS-232 ports, an optional GPS display unit, and ports to connect the unit to the truck (J1708 and J1939/CAN BUS) for more accurate paperless logging and such.

Arkjar, the deal with the black boxes is that the insurance industry wants them, and you know the insurance industry gets what it wants, every time. Every vehicle (with the exception of some very old ones) on the road was built with a black box, supposedly for the purpose of collecting data to build safer vehicles, by studying the behavior of the vehicle and driver just prior to the crash. The insurance adjustors will use the data to assign fault, if they can. (If your insurance pays you for a "total loss" of your vehicle, the vehicle then belongs to them, and they can access the data on the black box. I don't know whether they could access the data if the vehicle is being repaired, at their expense, but I wouldn't be surprised to find thay can do that, too.)
Nor will I be surprised when law enforcement demands to free themselves of the need for officers to sit at the roadside with laser guns, by accessing the speed information directly from the black boxes.

I had my programmed to shut down in 15 minutes after the key is turned to the off position.

The battery draw is minimal.

I have yet to meet the first person who ever had to replace a less than three year old battery as the result of the QC draining power.

Obviously, I want to preserve the life of my battery as long as possible so I had the carrier set my QC shut down time to the most minimal possible. Moreover, I spend very little time in the van once I stop to wait on another load; therefore, I use no interior lights, no radio, no cell phone recharging, etc. In fact, when I get in to sleep, I use an L.E.D. lantern to light the interior just long enough to get ready for bed.
