How do you prepare for winter?

Cheri, funny you mentioned cat litter, it doesn't seem to work nor does the carpet - I have a $300 towing bill from last winter.

However ... the 911 will work ... just pour it on the ice, light it and then move the truck.

By the way, just to add to this ...

make sure you have extra wipers, extra wiper cleaning fluid that goes to -20 or better, and make sure you have some way to remove snow.

Thanks Linder, for the Slushbuster reminder - new windshield. I wish they could be found other than online, where I have to pick them up next time I get home, but after a year of looking everywhere, I guess not. I always order 2 sets [to justify the s&h, they don't weigh as much as a canary], but I end up giving the second set away, lol.
With the carpet pieces, I keep a jug of kitty litter for traction in icy spots, and Diesel 911 in case of gelling, and extra gallons of water.
Oooh: chicken & dumplings, soon! :)

Cheri I have not asked but thought about it before. I bet we could get something shipped to load1 and pick it up when we are at the yard.

That's a great idea, Xiggi, and I bet you're right, long as we use common sense and don't have everything sent there, but just stuff we may need before we go home. :)

I'm surprised that John hasn't orders a few cases of them and put them in your winter care/ driver appreciation packages.

Most of you would pick them up when you get your thanksgiving/Christmas gift cards at the holiday party, right?

Little bit jealous, are we? :D
Just to make you feel better, I'll admit: the kitty litter didn't work when I tried it [with a rug!], and I had to call the Happy Hooker too. [With what those guys charge, they gotta be happy, right?] But it still comes in handy when the walkways are icy in places that don't get salted - pour some in a bag with a hole in the bottom corner, and pour it ahead. I've been doing that since I approached a dock and saw the driver ahead of me lying on the ice, waiting for the EMTs - I can't afford a ride in an ambulance and time off.

Forgot: a bit of isopropyl alcohol in the washer fluid [to prevent freezing], and spare fuel filters in case of gelling. I keep extra filters anyhow, but add another for winter, just in case.
