How are teams dividing the hours?

Lugnut, are your logs electronic? The 8-3-3-8 sounds good if the "cutie" on the qualcom doesn't complain "you are out of hours of service driving time". I thought the split had to be 8-2-2-8 but the 3-3 in the middle makes since with the 11 hrs available on duty during the 14.

We are paper log book driven. No Qcom, though we do provide tracking if customer has a legitimate need. We have had two class 1 inspection in the last six months, no problems.
Not sure why more drivers do not use the 8-3-3-8. After being UP a good portion of a day and then accepting a long run, 8338 gets you into the run much easier than a 10/10 split.

No they aren't . 8 hours consecutive in a sleeper means exactly that .
Part 395.8 (h) (1) Off-duty. Except for time spent resting in a sleeper berth, a continuous line shall be drawn between the appropriate time markers to record the period(s) of time when the driver is not on duty, is not required to be in readiness to work, or is not under any responsibility for performing work.

(h) (2) Sleeper berth. A continuous line shall be drawn between the appropriate time markers to record the period(s) of time off duty resting in a sleeper berth, as defined in §395.2. (If a non-sleeper berth operation, sleeper berth need not be shown on the grid.)

We know it's done often but it isn't "allowed"

So then everybody is required to have a portapotty in the truck? When ya gotta go you gotta go. Life functions take precedence over ANY law man can come up with. I want to see the ticket for illegal potty stop. What a court battle that would be.

Lugnut, can you give us an example with actual times?

What type of example would you consider useful? And, I have a question. Are you having an issue with how 8338 works, without violating 14hr and/or 11hr rules, or something else?

An actual example will help and without violating the 14/11/rule.

It is not for me, it is for a couple who can't figure it out and I tried to explain it to them,

Ok, give me a few hours as we are heading into Frys Electronics for some toys. Will post images of logs for your examination.

Ok, cannot publish personal logs (privacy reasons), so did other option. Ran the 8338 on Driver Daily Log (free trial at this link)|( Quick Download Page )
If you are still confused, do the download and run the 8338 yourself, you will find there will be no 11 or 14 hr violations.
Image included is back to back log days placed end to end for easier viewing. Hope this helps you.

We do it night and day. I drive days and he drives nights since he has always been a night person and I have always been a day person. Once in a while (very seldom) we will get thrown off scedule but not often. I usually take over around 7 am and he takes it between 8 and 9 pm. 7 to 9 is the 14 our clock. By the time I use the on-duty not working for load and unloading, or to wait for a load to be dispatched, stop to eat, take time to walk Miss Minnie I can usually go to 8 or 9 pm. Works great and we stay on a scedule. I could not do the constant up and down some of you guys do. I need my full 10hrs sleep in one shot and I am good for the next day. Take even 1 hour away and I drrrraaaagggg the whole day. I soooo hate to drrrraaaagggg! :D

PS There always seems to be more sitting time during the day then at night so I do get some naps in. lol
