OOIDA is worth their dues. The problem isn't OOIDA it's everyone who says if they were worth their dues and then doesn't join. If every driver joined OOIDA like they should we would outnumber Walmart drivers by a huge margin. It's all in the numbers and every individual driving is another one of the numbers. Walk the walk, join OOIDA.

The thing that really kills you is if you don't get that second load because the company is keeping track of you on qualcomm. Whole day wasted on a mini... doesn't make sense.

A couple of quick points: Why the change in Jan 2004?
1) Mineta is Bush' appointee to FMSCA- for good of drivers? to ask is to answer:
2) Industry (ATA) always wanted the 34 hr. restart provision:
3) 11 hrs driving is worse actually to driver's health (but given rates and load offers are we complaining?);
4) If you drive/work up to 70, and take 34 off, one COULD work up to 77 hrs in a week- thus drivers are being pushed much harder;
5) Old sleep berth rules were still in effect- SO- a bone had to be thrown out to PATT & CRASH, ETC.; and thus new rules in Oct. 05;

Now: apparently ATA does not like the 2 hr break without extending the clock, and Land Line, is also advocating a "common sense" amendment to make the two hour off-duty window also extend the clock.
I bet that is the best we will see... I doubt they will bring back a 5 on-5 off split sleep provision.
I recommend D.D.L. (Drivers Daily Log for $70)if you want your books right- it is foolproof.

that's true to hawk,or now if it takes them more than an hour or so it can waste a whole day. crazynuff wasnt implying anything was just making a point that the rule changes affect all of us not just the team's.

It isn't how many drivers you have . It's the money . No matter how many members OOIDA has , they won't make the political contributions that WalMart , the ATA , and the Teamsters make . Politicians don't care how many members an organization has if you don't make the contributions . You're forgetting OOIDA openly attacking the ATA leadership by writing complaints to carriers and lawsuits against trucking comnpanies because a few whiney drivers find there may be a minor misinterpetation of the contract . The money companies like Landstar has to spend to fight these suits hurts all the drivers of the companies . Do you think OOIDA will bother with problems of individual members ? I called them when my carrier wouldn't give me copies of customer billing . The OOIDA rep treated me like I was just wasting her time ? "Why didn't you ask for copies at the time of delivery ? Well , you know better now don't you ? Live and learn . You waited 2 weeks past the required 45 days for your escrow refund ? Some people wait SIX Months ! " and so on . Well , I'm sorry I wasted her time and wasted my money for dues . I had also asked for their assistance in obtaining authority . They could not give me the name of an insurance company to provide required insurance in KY . Calling another service gave me a list of 6 agents in KY that would provide the coverage . OOIDA is just interested in complaints that will give their attornies a fat profit on class action suits . I guarantee they will not increase their staff in proportion to increased membership and the problem will only get worse .

Actually, you have to look at it a bit different. Most people have "trained" themselves to operate under the 5/5 conditions. Retraining you sleep habits is not an easy thing to do.

Also sitting in one place day in and day out for long periods can be a problem for a lot of people. My wife and I drive 10/10 which works for us. I think the FMCSA should allow the team to do what they feel safe doing.

the proponants of OOIDA seem to use the same tired arguements as union organizers, pay your DUES,join up or hurt your brothers.

the beat goes on.

just my opinion

True... they do eerily sound like union goons. However, that's how organizations keep their head above water. The problem I see with crazy's post is that they seem to be getting away from the personal aspect of the organization. Whereas, if it doesn't look like it's going to make money, screw it.

Crazy... are you talking about a copy of the tarrif? If so, try to go over the head of the one who told you no at your company. Remind them that what they're doing is illegal if you're making a percentage of the tarrif. If no luck, go to the attorney general for your state.

I love the attitude of that company... NOT! They just expect you to believe they're being honest with you. Be careful rocking the boat tho.

It's my understanding that you can ask to see the bill for a specific load. They have no obligation to show you a rate sheet, or anything like that.

the company you drive for has to show you rate for the load if you ask it is the law
as far as
ooida it work's there have been a couple of companies that were doing things they weren't suppose to do ooida took them to court and won
in tn the scale house was giving trucker a hard time and ooida took em to court and stop it
and with the hours of service it is going to take time to change things to a better way , we all need to write our member's of congress and senator, and say this isn't right

and if you have not register to vote you should to as they list to your voice as they work for us
