HOS REGS

I just read that land Line article about the Conway Lady that had a long wait to get unloaded in Long Island NY and could not run her engine for heat. When the new rules go into effect she may have had to wait an additional 10 hours before she could get warm,or buy a Motel room.Last Saturaday a bus passed me carrying a High School football team to a playoff somewhere. This was not a school bus but a normal bus ,so I assumed there was some distance involved. Lets say the driver went on duty at 0600,picked up the team at 0700,drove 200 miles ariving at 1100. They play the game ,it is over at 1700,the team is not ready to go back until 1900,the driver now has only 1 hour to drive with. So these school districts will have to charter buses with 2 drivers or put their team up in a motel. Who will pay the additional costs, you and me.
I have sent an e mail to my congressional rep voicing my concerns about these new rules,so far no reply.Since 2004 is an election year when the various candidates come looking for their PAC Contributions and they are told"Sorry we had to purchase more equipment and put on more drivers,so there are no bucks for you", then we might see a change.

That no idle law sounds like a crock to me... I really could careless if I miss out on an 800 mile load that goes there just so I can freeze my butt off!!! Sounds as if truckers are not welcome in New York.. Maybe we could all refuse to take freight to New York and then see what those reps of the state think!! I'll take the midwest where we are welcome anytime... Now I know we can't all boycott New York but boy if we could.......lol .. well just a thought that had me steamed up a bit.. and yeah the new HOS doesn't sound real rewarding either... Drive safe y'all and have a Merry Christmas, Andy

I live in NY, and the only places the troopers are enforcing the no idle law at is in the rest areas, where the old foagy travellers were complaining about the smoke. They have not been bothering anyone to date in the truck stops, and I am not sure even if they can as truck stops are private property and the law would not be enforceable there unless the property management allowed it.
