Thinking of returning home to Canada in the not to distant future,( I hope)
Already have some information of companies who run expedite. Are the hours of service rules the same in Canada as there are down here. Or does someone have a link to a Goverment of Canada web site that will
explain them to me.
Have you thanked yourself today? If you bought it, a truck brought it!

The Canadian government doesn't seem to do a great job of making the HOS rules available and accessible on their websites. I found some longwinded stuff about the proposed changes written in legaleze but no simple charts or anything to refer to like you'll find on the FMCSA website for US HOS rules.

Your best bet would be trucknews.com and highwaystar.ca. They're both good Canadian trucking publications that keep on top of issues like that.

In general, the current Canadian rules are less stringent than the current US rules. You can drive 13 hours instead of 11, be on duty 15 hours rather than 14, you only need an 8 hour break instead of 10, there's a lot more latitude with the split-sleeper provision, and there's no dreaded "14 hour window" which is my biggest gripe about the new US rules. You can also choose between 3 different duty cycles for accumulated hours: 60 hours in 7 days, 70 hours in 8 days, or 120 hours in 14 days (provided you took at least 24 hours off before reaching the 75th hour).

As Bryan pointed out, everything changes in January 2007 and the Canadian rules will look a little more like the American rules then. I think it will be a long time before HOS rules are ever fully harmonized between the two countries.
