Homeland Security asks Truckers to help find man.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Department of Homeland Security has tapped the nation's truckers to help find a man who has been seen taking photographs of tanker equipment.

On three separate occasions, the man also asked truck drivers several questions about deliveries and operations, according to the Highway Information Sharing and Analysis Center.

<SNIP>

Officials say the man has short, dark, wavy hair and a dark complexion. He is in his early 50s, and truckers who have spoken to him say it sounds like English is his second language. He was last seen driving a white car.

The alert describes three incidents that raised concern: one in Fort Myers, Florida, in April; another in Tampa, Florida, in May; and another in Ringgold, Georgia, in 2004.

<SNIP>

FYI: This is a BOLO alert.

Government wants us to help, yet can't find a decent solution to HOS. Don't hold your breath, Uncle Sam.

So if I start watching for this person will this be considered on duty not driving or will I have to be off duty?

You can only look for this man while you are logged on duty. If you spot him and turn him in and your log shows you in the sleeper there will be major repercussions.

I had windows in my sleeper - but I still wouldn't take that chance. The DOT would ask me why I was looking out the window when I was supposed to be sleeping for at least 8 hours like they ordered me to.

There are NO exceptions to the HOS regulations for patriotism.

LMAO! I like those answers! If I could give you points, Sharp, you'd have em! :7 If I could give you more, Scott, you'd have em too! :7

Read and learn, Unka Sham. The only limits you don't put on our job is how much you take out of our pockets. Find the guy yourself!

Hey those are some great funny answers. Until I think about 9-11 and those people jumping out the windows, sort of kills my sense of humor.

From the description this guy sounds like he might be up to something "evil". If terrorists use a large truck bomb here I do not think that they will target the DOT in D.C. More likely it will be a mall were our kids are hanging out.

I know that the government can be a pain in the backside. But please remember that we are at war and the enemy would kill all of us if they could. Just listen to their statements, you don't have to take my word for it.

Thanks Rodger, and welcome to the forums.
Like Rodger said some of the replies are funny, but he is right about all said in his post.
I would also like to thank the poster for bringing this BOLO to our attention.

9-11! Who - Where - What- what are you talking about?

How many of you reading this thread is asking those 'W' questions already about 9-11?

How easy we forget!!!

I don't wish to denegrate the suffering that the USA went through on 9-11-01; but there could also be an innocuos reason too.

People are fascinated by the trucking business.
Tourists still come to the USA.
Not everybody speaks English as their mother tongue.
Just a thought.

I have to agree with Roger on this one. Although the government has gotten away from their job, supporting the entire Constitution and only that, this is still my country and I'm going to do the job the best that little old me can.

I hope Rob is correct and it's just some truck groupie. Based on dates and locations it is unlikely to be just some tourist so I'm going to keep my eyes open.

I agree. I think we all try to find humor in what frustrates us. And yes, a guy taking pictures is something to think seriously about. But when the government asks you to do its job (remember... THEY turned it into a THEM taking care of US nation), you have to wonder to what end. They've basically ignored our southern border. And in many cases, they don't even respond to sightings of illegals.

I'll still make the call if I see something suspicious, if only to protect potential victims. But as far as supporting our constitution, Leo... Man, that thing's been shredded a long time ago by our government. And don't say anything about voting. Cause I know dam well the only thing that changes during the election is the face of the facade going on in DC. The rulers never change.

Thawk, unfortunately we'd have to go back at least a century to see a pretty solid Constitution with basically total support from government and citizens. I will unfortunately live only long enough to see it further prostituted and diluted. Voting only affords me the privilege to complain and the opportunity to perhaps change a D+ to a C- or C representative. It SO INFURIATES ME when I think about a Medal of Honor recipient being held boarding a plane and the FOOLS at security telling him he can't take the MEDAL OF HONOR on the airplane, all in the name of disarming the honest and legitimate citizens. Anyway, enough of that and where's my blood pressure medicine. :( :( :(

Thanks for the reminder that we all need to contribute to the well being of our fellow citizens, regardless of the feelings we may have for our government's employees or elected individuals.

The establishemnt of Highway Watch is but one means we have to observe unusual activity and report it to the appropriate authorities for investigation. As a card carrying member of this worthwhile organization, I appreciate your post.

Every now and then we need a reminder of why our elected officials take the action they do. Agree or disagree with their methodology, something needs to be done. take a few moments and check out the following reminder.

Lots of luck contacting Homeland Security!!! I received a transponder with incorrect info on it. I have two phone calls and an email to the phone and email of HS concerning the transponder. I am still waiting for an answer after about three weeks. Damned good thing I wasn't calling to report the photographer mentioned above.
