:( Holiday Greed

:(I understand that some conveinence stores and grocery stores have to be open early day on Thanksgiving, for those of us that need that last minute dinner item.
However the big box retail does not have to open on Thanksgiving Day, This is just pure greed and shows that they care about profit and not family.. My question is, will they really be making any money(profit)? This also ruin the family togetherness, for people .especialy those that have plans to travel a little to see family.
I hearby declare that ALL employees of theses greedy big box, retailers call in sick with the FLU, so to speak.:(:(

Please re-post and or share, to get the word out.

I remember not very long ago, you were lucky to find a 7-11 open on the holiday. Now it's pretty much common place for most to be open. I've worked for places that were open on the holiday and the word was always out. If you call in on the holiday, you can kiss your job good-bye :( Sad how times have changed.

If your going to close K-mart or Kohl's then may as well close your convenience stores and gas stations also. Don't forget about the Nurses they have family's also or the Patrolman. The list goes on.
This day and age most employers require you work your sch day not only before or after the Holiday but the Holiday also if your scheduled. Just the way it is.. I can agree with you that they may or may not take in alot of money that day. It does kinda blow that the wife or kids have to work and be away from family but they chose that job. My mother was a nurse and worked the holidays and still put on a feast. It created a problem from time to time but it was worked out. If your family member has to work then its up to you to work the Holiday around that and see to it you get them a Holiday with family time.

When I young younger and someone forgot to buy the bread yesterday,,Bread was made. Not much of a use for convenience stores back then.

I worked at Walmart in a small town that didn't have much in the way of employment so while I understand your pov I'd rather go to work than not have a job. But that being said I come from a very large family(225 first cousins) so going to work was so much less stressful lol

It is not the shopping part, it is the fact that this is one of the gathering day and employess need time off.

That's the point if people don't shop they will stop opening. Fact is most peoples thanksgiving is over by mid afternoon.

it is just another day....highly over rated.....

And a good day to take your phone off the hook so weird relatives can't call you. Christmas is another. And New Years. And Independence Day. And Memorial Day. And Easter. And Thursdays.

Bah humbug to all of it!

Somebody had to say it and I feel better now.

I did work at one place back in the day that needed 24hr staff. A nice compromise (I thought ) was made by the staff that everyone worked on the holiday for 4 hours, so everyone could have most of it off. Didn't have anyone that needed to go out of town so that worked alright. Ah the joys of time and a half, when you make $3.35 an hour haha. That's how long ago that was

For the employees, it goes with the territory. Doctors, nurses, police, firefighters, and lots of others have learned to cope with the need to be at work, seeing it as a chance to be creative with 'tradition'. It can even be a good thing!
For the shoppers: anything that can reduce the insanity of mobs on Black Friday is a welcome idea, IMO.

Secretary's Day, Truck Driver Appreciation Week, etc. The list will keep growing because everyone needs more than their birthday to feel special and it wouldn't be fair if someone else has a special day and I didn't.

I used to be a district manager at Denny's. The two busiest days of the year, hands down, were Thanksgiving and Christmas. Whether it's a restaurant, gas station, convenience store or a big box store, as ziggi noted, if people don't go there on holidays then these places wouldn't be open.

Oh so that crime against humanity they call the Grand Slam Breakfast is your fault? Either way I'm blaming you for it. :)

Can't even count the number of times we celebrated Christmas in March, birthdays 6 months late, etc. while I was in the military. The date is unimportant. It is the family time that counts.
