hiring someone with a drug past

i have a friend ...... whom has a daugther in her 30's i think. whom wants to get her CDL ...... my friends has asked me to ask a few ?? here..
?? about companies hiring her daugther whom has used in the past and been arrested for such ... and is in AA .. counseling etc.. and is wanting to straighten out her life ... and is interested on driving.
I told her ...... all companies do drug screens etc......
any other views on this would be great.......
i already told her...... it wil b hard for her to find a driving job.. with her past such as it is.

Couple of issues here. First, the drug charges. I would say that most companies can get by these if the convictions are more than 5 or 7 years old. These charges, if felonies, will prohibit the driver from doing Canadian loads. Many companies require drivers to be able to enter Canada.

Secondly, many carriers require at least 1 or 2 years driving experience in the type of vehicle the driver intends to operate.

Suggest applying to carriers prior to spending any money or time on obtaining a CDL. She will find her true options.
