I can't help but think that a good portion of the increased traffic to ExpeditersOnline.com is people looking at the expediting opportunity for the first time, or looking at it anew; because their present employment and business opportunities have been or may be adversely affected by the ongoing recession. To them, we say, Welcome!
If done right, expediting can be an exciting and profitable opportunity even in bad times. But the question is, how do you do it right?
The recession has been hard on expediters too. People looking at expediting from the outside should carefully note the fact that numerous expediters and expedite carriers (many of them with years of experience) are being forced out of the business as you read this.
How do you do expediting right? The standard advice is to develop your own answer to that question by reading one year's worth of posts here in the Open Forum. I would modify that advice just a bit in these recessionary times.
Revenue has dropped for many of us in recent months. Figures offered a year ago or even a few months ago are not likely to be accurate today. Keep that in mind as you read older posts.
Be careful about latching onto last year's numbers as an indication of how you might do. There are a bunch of us in trucks today that would love to have those numbers now.
That said, enjoy your visits to ExpeditersOnline. Don't hesitate to jump into the Open Forum with your questions. People here here are happy to help.
