About the Detroit fires, maybe there is a couple things to be said about upkeep of properties and some of the issues with the fire department - like the fact they are underfunded because the unions in the city have not been broken.

The one comment that sticks out as somewhat comical is this;

"Mack said the Detroit Fire Department has not seen that many fires burning at once in the city since the Detroit riots in 1967."

Yep that is comical because this was about 150 fires were all told caused by the wind or "natural disaster" these two days but I don't think Chief Mack worked the 1980's shift because just in one night in 1984 there were more than 800 fires in the city of Detroit and out of those 475 were houses both occupied and vacant the rest were commercial buildings or cars, trucks and dumpsters. The riots produce 412 buildings burnt to the ground, which is a far cry from the 800 of 1984. The following year, it was a three day fire fest, with about 600 structures being set aflame.

There are all told on an average day, 100 house fires being responded to. Some times that peaks to 150, depending on the area and weather.

Well, Detroit has asked for everything it gets. They keep voting in the same socialist bums year in and year out. You get what you pay for.

Well think about it this way

Atlanta, Detroit - what is wrong with these two cities that no other city has problems with? It isn't what you may think, it isn't political either but here is a hint - welfare and unions.

AH, YES, but Detroit is run by a man who's major claim to fame is that he knew how to bounce a ball!! How grand!! Even though the was NOT as many fires as in 1967 there WAS far LESS gunfire!! :p No machine gun implacements or tanks on the streets. See, Bing HAS made progress! :rolleyes:
