Hi Experienced Expediters!

I am newer than new mowed grass to expediting, but not to big trucking. I can see Expediting looks like a whole new and exciting ball game. I haven't had a first dispatch yet, but I am working with JD Clark to get hired on and hopefully soon. I do have one question however that confuses me. Is it necessary to run a log book if I am going to drive a Sprinter Van?
Thanks for reading this.

Hi Jumbuck, and welcome!

You won't need to run a log book unless you're hauling Hazmat.

I know this , for a fact. Some states have 2 different types of scales.(1) is weigh stations- meaning unless otherwise posted go thru especially if marked.
(2) inspection station- meaning DOT inspection. As far as I know like in illinois you must stop and drive thru these. as a coomercial vehicle. Also in Illinois I noticed signs that have All vehicles over 8 tons must weigh. I alway say if marked and not sure, take the only way to go, and that would be go slow thru

I think someone should get on the ball and require that all cv laws be nationwide, with no variation state to state, with the exception
As to what each state has for weight limits and other load requiremnts.

Thanks. Like I said earlier, I've always driven a semi and you MUST stop even if you are only Bobtailing, because as you said, they are checking other things besides weight.
When I was hauling new cars if you were empty the only time you didn't have to stop was if you were in your home State, but ONLY if you were empty.
It would be nice if they would finally get smart and make firearms and trucking laws uniform in ALL states. After all, we all live in the same bleedin' country!
I didn't know how it worked with Sprinters. Oh, Boy, and I thought I knew everything...

When loaded with Haz mat you need to log ,and go thru scales. You also must have your paper work handy were someone may find it in case of emergency.Unless thing's have changed.

Jimbuck: in a van, you need to go through the scale when the sign says you do. [Ie: all commercial vehicles, over 8000 lbs, etc]
But only if it's open. :D
