I need some advice. I just started looking into the expediting services and dont know where to begin. I thought about O/O but to me its a real big committment and one I'm not sure I'm ready to make. The problem is I work in a factory out here in northwest Ohio and I hate it, you know supervisor hanging over your shoulder pushing brooms when things are slow etc. I have experiance driving different kinds of trucks, like a 16' flatbed and 26' box truck and loved doing that as I was home every night and weekends, I also drove a tractor trailer for a year a while back but that didnt last long as iI was out 2 to 3 weeks at a time and never got to see my family ( wife and two small children). I guess my question is, is it possible to work in this profession for some one else who owns a number of trucks where you can make a good living and be home a resonable amount of time or should I just start looking elsewhere? I hope this letter makes sense and would appreciate any feedback any one could offer. Well thanks for listening ( or reading ). Thanx Joe

Joe living in NorthEast ohio,I will assume Cleveland ,Youngstown area has possibilities for what you are looking for. There are numerous owner-operators that have small fleets in Ohio,Indiana,Michigan ETC.yOU WILL NEED A VALID,CLEAN CDL WITH A HAZ/MAT ENDORSEMENT in order to qualify for most companies in this field. I think that you should expect to be away from home 3-5 nights a week. Also in this business it is not unusual to get a call at 11PM or on a Sunday morning that requires you to leave imeadiately. This can affect home life considerably. Many trips out of your area leave at night and require early morning deliveries.. If you are serious this post has fleet owners looking for drivers so you might want to advertise your interests by posting on the forum..Good Luck

Honestly, you live in one of the best places that you could chose if you want to be home regularly and be a single driver, but those are the two biggest handicaps that i can think of.

Dear Joe,

Northeast Ohio? Give me a call. One way to ease yourself into the O/O life may be to drive someone elses truck who is an O/O or you could drive someone's company truck. Driving another O/O's truck would not provide insurance (health, hosp, etc.) and most of the O/O's that I have who allow someone else to drive for them pay 50% of what ever the truck earns. Some of the guys I have who drive for O/O's complain about fuel and toll reimbursement problems with the O/O. I have (1) O/O right now who is looking to put a driver in a 20' flatbed. I also have a few company positions open. (1) for a box truck and (2) for flatbeds (24-26'). My company drivers have benefits and since we are a little different than the average expediter, most of my drivers are home nightly and on weekends. There are jobs out of state so there will be nights that they are not home, but I can guarantee that unless they are driving home from California, they will be home tomorrow night. E-mail me at [email protected] if you are interested. We are located in Bedford, Ohio.

Good Luck, Stacey
