Help selecting inverter

I am entering the expedite arena with a truck pretty well equipped however it doesn't have a inverter. Small fridge, small microwave, tv dvd combo, small heater, and laptop are the needs. Was considering a 2000 watt inverter. Does this seem enough? Are there brand names that are higher / lower quality? Any info appreciated. Thanks.:)

I have a Xantrex that is 1750 continuous and 3500 surge. It has been plenty for me so far in a 96" sleeper. I believe that is considered one of the better brands. Just add up all the items you may want to power at the same time to get a minimum and then add 15-20% for good measure.

I can't give you a particular type to buy, but have you figured out what the total power consumption might be for all the equipment? the math formula if P =I x E where P = power, I= current and E = voltage.. on the back of the equipment you should find the information for current& voltage, sometimes they but power if not you will have to do the month..

hope that helps...smilie(';)')

We just use a 1500 watt with a george forman grill, a fan, 20" TV, sat or DVD, a laptop, phone charger. Only had to replace it once and still used a 1500 went with the cobra brand because it has the big fans to keep it cooled. The old one was an off brand that had small vents and the wires and connectors melted, but we dont use a microwave. In the past a microwave needed a 2500.

Hot wireing can result from not useing heavy enough wire. I had that problem and mine was installed by a "pro". Went up a size or 2 and no problems since.
