HELP please

i was recently driving for an owner. we parted ways mutually, and he called me a couple days later and said that he found damage to the van, and wants me to split the deductible with him. i know for a fact the vehicle didnt get hit while i was in it, or while it was parked in my drive way. i'm not sure what to do

To me that's no different than Hertz calling a week after you drop off the rental saying its damaged. It was on him to inspect it when you dropped it off (unless the circumstances were different).

I am sure you have the pitures of the van from when you dropped it off and also the inspection sheet tha both of you signed stating the condition of the van when you took it and from when you dropped it off...so with those items, you shouldn't have any isues at all.....

Now back to reality...like was pointed out, a call a week later is a joke..tell him to pound sand..but next time you might want to do it right just on case.....

Take pictures when you pick it up, more pictures when you drop it off. Even better if you have owner sign off "no visible damage to vehicle (date)" on a checklist. Too many drivers have had this happen.
As for your current situation...
-what kind of damage can he do to your reputation?
-how long can this be drawn out?
-will lawyers/small claim court come into play?
-is it just easier to pay?

I wouldn't think the owner would have a hope in hell in winning this through small claims court.

If he owes you money i'm sure you won't see it all the above is excellent advice,maybe he is just looking for a reason to short your pay.

If he owes you money it'll be up to you to sue him. If he has paid you in full then he will have to prove to you that you owe him.

So who owes who money?

Ask him to send you pictures. If you met and he was satisfied after you "mutually" parted ways, then it is on him.
If he still owes you money, well then it sounds like he is trying to short change you.

Document, Document, Document, Pictures and Signatures, a chargeback sheet that states what and any youll be liable for Before, and After you start work, and when you decide to part ways, ALL IN WRITING, I recently had an issue with Penske over this sort of thing and I had taken pictures of my truck, with the date on the pics....after mailing them to Penske and a copy of the damage inspection they backed off, But if you dont have this evidence then you COULD be sued etc....if theres no inspection report and they claim your at fault after your gone, your at risk, possibly but court is expensive and collections even more so....Digital cameras are cheap insurance for any type of documentary evidence.
